Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Good.
Hi Jessica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I have been an artist my whole life dabbling in various forms of media. I was classically trained in oils but preferred acrylics early on. I taught paint and sip classes professionally and even participated in the art festival circuit. I still occasionally create bold landscapes that capture the fleeting moments of the natural world. Working with acrylic paint for over 25 years, I realized how fast I was when I painted with it. Unlike many artists, I also love to be around people, and thanks to the social aspect of my previous business, I decided to start researching the wedding industry, where my artwork can become timeless and evoke memories of a particular day. Evoke Artworx provides a modern-day version of a tradition that dates back to a time without photographs. I am commissioned to capture the perfect moment in a unique way that fascinates guests and adds a touch of magic.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
It has been challenging to gain momentum with Evoke Artworx. I have always been shy with social media to engage the public with my work. Only recently, I started coming out of my comfort zone. The wedding industry is vast and complex. I need to network and meet other vendors to push my business forward. My business is at the tail end of a bride’s wedding planning process, so unless the live painting is a gift or they have already factored it into the budget early, I am a last thought. Live wedding painting and live guest fashion portraits are gaining momentum. Yet, many people still are not aware that this guest entertainment option exists, until they see it at another wedding.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in live wedding paintings and live guest fashion portraits. A live wedding painting is a type of art where the artist creates a painting in real time during a wedding ceremony or reception. I capture the scene in acrylic, add personal touches and entertain the guests while at the event. The couple gets to take home a beautiful keepsake for themselves. The live guest fashion portraits are keepsakes for each guest. They pose momentarily, and I create each sketch with watercolor and ink. This provides the guests with a personalized favor that they take home. My work is finished by the end of the night. Live wedding painting is more time intensive. Since most weddings occur on weekends, I reserve my time during the weekdays for added detail, clearcoat, and wiring of the painting before it gets delivered to the couple, generally after the honeymoon. I offer various sizes based on space and budget. I am also available to travel across the country.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew up more isolated. I could have fit in better. I always dabbled in art. While other kids participated in sports and academic teams, I spent my time in a corner, drawing or painting. I enjoyed nature and had a few close friends, but I kept to myself. Growing older, I began to come out of my shell and now crave social interactions.
I never wore my heart on my sleeve, but now I practically cry at every wedding. I love it so much.
