Check Out Clare Behringer’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clare Behringer.

Clare Behringer

Hi Clare, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I always thought I wanted to be an artist. Throughout my youth, you could always find me sketching or writing in some journal — a journal that was usually held together by heavy-duty tape. I attended Clemson University and received my Bachelor’s in Fine Art with a focus in Sculpture. It was there I learned how to craft a story through visuals. After graduating, I worked for a few years in various design jobs before I went to earn my Master’s in Business at the College of Charleston. It was there I was introduced to my mentor, David Morgan, and subsequently to the TV industry. This was an absolute dream job for me. After 2020, I decided I wanted to start focusing on more independent projects. This led me to open Unflappable Studios in 2022.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road at all. The film and television industry is brutal, cutthroat, subjective, and expensive to break into, especially when you do not live in a big city. Additionally, the industry has experienced strike after strike, leading to professionals and companies being without work for years. Luckily, I have navigated all of this with the experienced guidance of David Navarro. He has opened doors for me and brought people to the table with much to offer. I’ve met so many incredible people thanks to him, and together we have managed to create some incredible projects we cannot wait to share with the world.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
While I am adept at writing, editing, and producing, the strongest skills I possess are creating sales decks and producing work—they go hand-in-hand. First, creating sales decks sounds boring—but it could not be further from it! From science to animals, to horror, to sports, and to fantasy — I get to work with all subject matter. Having created countless pitch decks under the corporate umbrella, I have unique insight into how to trim the proverbial fat and include information buyers typically want to see…in addition to information buyers didn’t know they wanted to see. Second, producing is something I am highly skilled at. I am most proud of my first film highlighting mental health. I wrote and produced <i>Vulnerable,</i> a 15-minute scripted short film that addresses themes of depression and how small gestures can save someone from taking their own life. It was a heavy project, but it was extremely personal to me. David Navarro read my script and immediately jumped in to help shoot — thus our partnership was born. When the film premiered, all ticket proceeds went to Charleston’s local mental health charity, Mental Health Heroes. Since then, I have helped many develop their ideas into stories and assisted in getting them in the door to some of the most successful production houses in the world.
Producing television and film is a continual learning process. Every show, pitch, and company is unique, so I tailor the research, information, and design to that uniqueness. The most exciting part, however, is I am typically approached by clients who may not be as familiar with the television industry, and they have an idea that is unique and special. Not only do I get to learn something new, but I also get to help this person find success in their passion. It is so cool to see someone’s face light up when they see the title of their work come to life on screen. It truly is magical!

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
While a lengthy name, Unflappable Studios says it all. I have always been quick to act, with no hesitation. In fact, “You are unflappable” was the first compliment I received in the industry. It always stuck with me, so I thought it would be fitting to name my company after it, if anything, as a reminder to keep moving forward on days I may be a little “flapped,” so to speak. If something goes in a different direction than anticipated, great! A new experience to learn from. The ability to keep moving forward toward solutions is key to any success.
