Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Helms.
Hi Brooke, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
After becoming a mother, I wanted to find a way to help support my family while not missing any time with my son. My husband encouraged me to start something of my own that could eventually allow me more time at home. So Rose & Clover was born! What began as more of a creative outlet than anything else soon became a mission to encourage and inspire women in every season of motherhood. After 6 short months, I quit my part-time job and began running R&C full-time with my one-year-old by my side! Now I am the mama of 2 rambunctious little boys and running an online boutique with the help of my longtime friend turned employee, Chelsey!
Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Anyone who owns their business can attest that 90% of it is trial & error at the beginning! I’m 3.5 years in and still figuring things out, but it has been the most exciting and rewarding journey! As with any job, one of the biggest challenges has been balancing running a business while being a mother and a wife, especially since my business is literally in my home. It can be hard to step away from my role as a business owner and switch my focus onto my role in our household, but I am incredibly thankful to have a very supportive husband who has spent many late nights helping me print!
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I design/curate apparel that helps women feel comfortable and provides an encouraging message. While I like to give various products, I am best known for my graphic t-shirts. I like to pull from my experiences as a wife/mother to create meaningful designs for our clothing. My goal is to provide excellent products and create a community where mothers feel seen and heard during seasons of life that can leave us feeling discouraged and lonely.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
What has been most important to my success is my transparency in business ownership & motherhood alike. What drives people to shop from small businesses is that they support real people and real families, so I try my best to show up and share struggles, successes, and a little bit of mom humor.
