Check Out Angelica Santiago’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Santiago.

Hi Angelica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been creative with a camera, whether I was taking pictures or filming the Columbia nightlife. Growing up I loved basketball, so in 2014 when my oldest son began playing at the Boys & Girls Club in Texas, I started to film him. I would film us training and his games. He eventually went on to play AAU and I just became that Mom that always captured everything. Parents would come to me for footage and it just kind of took off from there. I studied other’s filming techniques and learned how to edit games and that’s how iAMroyalty Media, LLC was born.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It wasn’t easy at first because ppl would just see me as “Elias’s Mom”… when I started no one was really on the sidelines recording like how it is now. I had to earn trust with coaches, kids especially, and parents. I decided to let my work speak for itself. It’s crazy cause some ppl still don’t know I’m a Woman.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work in sports media. My main focus is doing videography & photography for teams, coaches/trainers, individuals youth athletes, and tournament/special events. I help create film for kids that are trying to go to colleges and play at the next level. I’m most proud of my work over the years. I’ve had the opportunity to record some amazing and talented kids from Texas to South Carolina. I see some of them playing on ESPN and I just smile.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
You can’t give up!!! It’s hard because a lot of ppl won’t respect your work until you’re on top, but I appreciate the ppl that I have connected with and those that have helped me navigate thru the politics of youth sports.
