Check Out Ajay Patel’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ajay Patel.

Hi Ajay, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Real estate was something I always wanted to do but never had the opportunity until I lost my job at Prisma Health Orthopedics due to COVID. After I lost my job, I had to move back home with my parents where they were in the middle of a renovation on their home. Once I moved back, I took over and finished the rest of their 3,600 sq ft house; from painting, flooring, trim work, sanding & refinishing the stairs, to patching holes in the wall, you name it. Once that was all finished, I decided to take the time I had to acquire my Real Estate License in SC (before this I was studying to go to med school in hopes of becoming a Cardiovascular Surgeon)…how things have changed!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say smooth necessarily, but nothing you start new is going to really be “smooth”. Every obstacle I’ve come across have been more like lessons than anything, something to grow from; not something I see in a negative way. A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in real estate, mostly residential but also a little commercial (should have a commercial listing coming soon!), honestly, if there’s one thing that everyone I’ve met says about me, it would have to do with my accent. Everyone assumes when they see the last name Patel that I might sound a little different… and they’re right! Not the way they think thought, I was raised here in Darlington, SC so I’ve picked up a strong accent so I’ve been told and that always seems to throw people off when they hear me for the first time. I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built over the years, from friends & family, professors & teachers, to my clients. That has always been one of the most important things to me, that and keeping my word. If I tell you to call me if you need anything I mean it and I’ve had the same number since I’ve had a phone. That’s also one of the things that surprises people I haven’t spoke to in a while, they think they’re going to get a wrong number message but in reality, it’s me and it’ll always be me there to answer the phone.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was always outgoing, never afraid to speak what’s on my mind (still to this day to some extent haha). I’m the kid that parents were worried about going up to strangers because I was that friendly and just loved to talk to people!
