Check Out Aj Smalls’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aj Smalls.

Hi Aj, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Photography for me came by mistake but as a blessing. I was originally known for deejaying but after covid hit, my photography took off. Finishing my last years in college I ended up getting kicked out of my regular major graphic classes at the university. Tried to fight the case and all the board did was advise me to take a couple of filler classes since I was about to graduate so I ended up taking photography. The class required a camera which I had to buy and after graduation, I didn’t want it to go to waste. I studied how I wanted my photos to look and just kept working towards that. Everything is self-taught with the help of YouTube of course.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
At first, it was a smooth ride then when I really started to push my work I got overly booked and I didn’t know how to accommodate. I had to take time to adjust bookings, everyday life, and the time I took to learn more about photography. Over a 6 months period, I went from being booked on weekends to every day and it was hard to find a balance because I already put myself in a hole with accepting all bookings. It took me another 6-8 months to actually get caught up.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m mostly known for my style of enhancement. Basically, giving enhancements in the areas the clients would like.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years I would hope to see my business with multiple studios branching into different areas of photography as well as other commercial uses
