Meet Matthew Duncan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Duncan.

Matthew Duncan

Hi Matthew, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started with photography when I was around 8. I used to have disposable Polaroids and VHS video cameras. I used to set up my toys in certain positions, photograph them, and take pictures of everything. When I was around 10, I tried filming a remake of Star Wars with the old video camera (it didn’t turn out well, but I wish I still had the footage). I continued to take pictures throughout the years, and around 12, I got a decent digital camera, and by 16, I was taking pictures left and right of anything I could. After that, I stopped for a while life took its course. I started down a career path but still snapped shots whenever I could since I was on the road. Fast forward to when I was 25. I got a Canon camera for vlogging purposes and to try and grow my fitness stuff, and I once again started snapping photos, but this time I entered a couple of contests and did well enough to be featured in 2 galleries and on 121 clicks. Afterward, I was on Market St in downtown Charleston carrying my camera around and talking with a photographer with amazing photos that differed from the rest. He is the one who pushed me to do it professionally since it’s been a wonderful experience.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
It has been a lucky but not smooth road. I have had ups and downs and am stubborn, so I like going against the grain. I will try never to replicate a photo from someone else.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer and moving into videography. I am known for my editing style and the composition of my photos. I am currently focused on switching over from a street photography heavy perspective into working with more lifestyle, brand, and editorial styles of work while bringing my experience and street photography vison into those areas. My editing and desire to do everything differently and on the fly set me apart.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
They can either follow my Instagram which would be my quickest response time or visit my website.
