Today we’d like to introduce you to William Pepper-Alston.
Hi William, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is William Pepper Alston, and I’m a proud native of Awendaw, South Carolina. I’ve been DJing for the past few years, starting back in college with just a laptop. Since then, I’ve continued to build my skills and grow as a DJ, always working to take things to the next level.
My biggest inspiration has been my uncle, Jeff C. Sr., who played an important role in my life and helped spark my love for music. DJing is more than just mixing tracks to me — it’s a way to bring people together and create a good time for everyone involved.
Outside of music, I also volunteer for the Town of Awendaw, helping with projects involving the town’s parks and surrounding areas. Giving back to the community that raised me is something I care deeply about, and I bring that same energy to everything I do.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest obstacles for me has been learning not to compare myself to others. In the beginning, I definitely found myself doing that, but over time I realized that the real challenge is staying focused on my own growth. It’s not about being better than anyone else — it’s about being 1% better than I was yesterday. It’s me versus me. Once I shifted that mindset, the next biggest thing was consistency. Making time to practice and staying committed to improving — that’s where the real progress happens. Practice makes progress.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Professionally, I work in the adult beverage industry. I got my start in the kitchen, then worked my way up to serving, and eventually became a bartender. After spending years learning the ins and outs of the business from behind the bar, I decided to take a step back from that role but still stay rooted in the industry I love. Now, I’m on the distribution side — helping get people’s favorite adult beverages into bars, restaurants, and retail spaces. It’s the perfect mix of industry knowledge, relationship-building, and strategy, and I really enjoy what I do.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
From both standpoints, I think the adult beverage industry is experiencing a bit of a slowdown right now due to inflation and changing consumer habits — people are drinking a little less, which honestly isn’t a bad thing. But at the end of the day, the beverage industry isn’t going anywhere. Alcohol has been around forever, and it’ll continue to evolve with trends and preferences.
As for DJing, I see it as an industry that’s expanding. It’s becoming more accessible than ever — with platforms like YouTube, people who’ve always wanted to learn how to DJ now have the tools to get started. That creates more opportunities and brings fresh energy into the space. Music is never going to die, and DJing is only going to keep growing alongside it.
