Rising Stars: Meet William (jake) Fulton of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to William (jake) Fulton

Hi William (Jake), so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always been into music. I started listening to music at a young age while growing up in St Louis, Missouri. My family would sit around the family record player and listening to 60s and 70s records every night.

Fast forward to 2013 when I started learing to dj. I am sorry that I waited so long to start on this career path. I started learning to DJ through an acedemy called DJ4LIFE. The acedemy has taught me everything that I know and more. It has brought life into me and into others.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. I say that because you are competing with thousands of other DJs for spots and those that are established usually get first dibs. Everyone else, has to earn their way by convincing clubs or bars that they know how to a.) read a crowd
b.) have a good following and
c.) know the type of music people want to hear.

I have had my ups and downs along the way but I learn each and every time how to improve my gigs.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Aside from being a part-time dj, I also work in the retail service industry. Since this is about my creative side, I will explain that in detail. I specialize in open format djing. That basically means that I will play all types of genres during my sets. Anything from classic rock, pop, soul/r&b and country. I am know for playing most of my music on vinyl. I am proud of the support I get from all of the people who come to see me and from the compliments I receive during and after I am done playing.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about your city is the southern charm and hospitality. Plus, the historical significance your city has given to the world, I cannot really say anything bad about you city.
