Rising Stars: Meet Tisha Hurteau

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tisha Hurteau

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In life, I’ve had to go through many different adversities, some more challenging than others. Life’s adversities is what have molded me into the woman I have become. There are a few things that made the biggest impact on my life and that is the death of my father, my divorce, and discovering that I have a Chiari Malformation. Each of these things have impacted my life more than anything and the crazy thing is even though these are past events, the residual from it never fully goes away.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all… When my father passed, I became the back bone of the family. Looking back I never really had the time to fully grieve due to me having to take on the role of making decisions and being there for everyone else. However, that’s not the worse part. I was present during the passing of my father. He had a massive heart attack right in front of me and there was nothing that I could do. Talk about guilt and hurt. Minutes felt like hours. Till this day I still have vivid flashbacks of that day. I struggle with not having my father here to be my protector and to tell me everything is going to be alright during the hard times. In regards divorce, it wasn’t a messy divorce at all; however, when children are involved it can be a little challenging at times especially since I am a “mama bear.” The lack of acknowledgement and support at times can be truly challenging; however, I have a great support system in my corner. Lastly, there are so many challenges that come with having Chiari Malformation. After my first brain surgery, I was hopeful that I wouldn’t have to go through all of the symptoms that I had prior to surgery, but I was wrong. I struggle with so many different things when it comes to Chiari that I don’t even now what normal feels like anymore.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a mental health therapist. I work with ages ranging from 5-40 and with individuals who deal with behavioral issues, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and past trauma. I am known for my passion in helping others. I am most proud of having the opportunity to help those in need. What sets me apart from others is my personality and my passion.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as an accomplishment of the things that you have worked hard for. Through hard work, dedication, and determination you work to achieve a desired outcome.
