Rising Stars: Meet Tay Muñoz of Greenville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tay Muñoz

Hi Tay, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Tay Muñoz, a proud 52-year-old Puerto Rican and mother to my soon-to-be 24-year-old son, Jonathan Andrés. Throughout my career, I have worked in sales and customer service—industries that have allowed me to connect with people, build relationships, and make a meaningful impact.

After spending 14 years in Florida, life took an unexpected turn when I went through a painful divorce. Seeking a fresh start, I moved to Greenville in hopes of changing my surroundings—and, hopefully, my life. What I didn’t realize at the time was that this move would transform me in ways I never could have imagined.
When I decided it was time to leave the Sunshine State, I packed everything I could into my car (which, by the way, isn’t very big), leaving the rest behind. More than anything, I craved a fresh start—a chance to rebuild, rediscover myself, and create a new chapter on my own terms.

A dear friend of mine—someone I’ve cherished for over 30 years—offered to be my roommate so we could share expenses and support each other along the way. At the time, neither of us imagined that what started as a lifelong friendship would blossom into something even deeper. But life has a beautiful way of surprising us when we least expect it.

Fast forward to today, and we’ve been blessed with the incredible opportunity to purchase our first home together. I am now a proud homeowner in the beautiful city of Greenville, South Carolina. Every morning, I wake up, take a deep breath, and look around in gratitude. Some days, I still pinch myself and whisper, ‘This is real. This is my home.

I have always loved entertaining and hosting, finding joy in creating warm, welcoming experiences for my guests. Anytime I had company, I delighted in preparing beautiful charcuterie boards and grazing tables, turning simple gatherings into memorable occasions. My friends and family constantly encouraged me to turn this passion into a business, and that’s how More Than Cheese Board was born.

Beyond my love for food, I have always been passionate about interior design, home organization, and creating beautiful, functional spaces. That’s why I expanded my offerings to include interior decorating and organization services, helping my clients transform their homes into spaces that feel as inviting and curated as the gatherings I love to host.

When I moved to Greenville, I quickly found my footing by working in a leadership role at a co-working office space in Downtown Greenville. This experience allowed me to connect with professionals in various industries and immerse myself in the vibrant local business community.

Now, I am proudly working as the Marketing Specialist for Neighborhood Loans—the very same mortgage company that helped finance my beautiful home. This role is incredibly meaningful to me because I get to be part of a team that helps others achieve the dream of homeownership, just as I did.

Marketing has always been a passion of mine—I love the creativity, strategy, and connection it allows me to build with people. Being able to combine my skills with an industry that changes lives makes this role even more fulfilling. Seeing families take that first step toward owning a home and knowing that I play a small part in that journey is truly rewarding.

For the first time in my life, I am working from home, and I couldn’t be happier. This journey has been one of transformation, resilience, and growth, and I am beyond grateful for everything I have accomplished and the opportunities that continue to unfold.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The decision to uproot and start over after my divorce was a huge one. Of course, there have been struggles along the way, moments when I questioned my decision. Leaving behind my family, friends, and everything I owned and starting over in a new location was certainly no walk in the park. However, I’ve kept pushing forward, not just because of my resilience but also the support of my friends and family. Looking back on my experiences, I can see that every setback has been a lesson, every challenge an opportunity for growth.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently the Marketing Specialist for Neighborhood Loans, where I get to combine my passion for creativity, strategy, and helping others achieve homeownership. My role involves creating engaging content, building relationships, and ensuring that our brand effectively reaches those who dream of owning a home.

I specialize in storytelling through marketing, using my own journey as proof that homeownership is possible with the right guidance. I focus on educating and inspiring potential homeowners, breaking down complex mortgage processes into relatable and easy-to-understand content. My background in sales and customer service has helped me develop strong communication skills, allowing me to connect with clients in a meaningful way.

Beyond marketing, I also run More Than Cheese Board, where I bring my love for entertaining, interior design, and organization to life. Through charcuterie boards, grazing tables, and home styling services, I help people create memorable experiences in the place they call home.

What sets me apart is my personal journey—I’ve been on both sides of the mortgage process, as a client and now as a marketing professional. I understand the fears, questions, and emotions that come with buying a home, and I use that insight to create marketing that truly resonates with people.

I am most proud of my resilience and ability to reinvent myself. After major life changes, I didn’t just start over—I built a life that brings me joy, purpose, and success. From moving to a new city with just what I could fit in my car to now owning my home and thriving in my career, I hope my story inspires others to believe in fresh starts and the power of perseverance.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The COVID-19 crisis was a time of uncertainty, but it also taught me some of the most valuable lessons of my life. One of the biggest takeaways was the importance of adaptability—learning to pivot when life takes unexpected turns. Before the pandemic, I never imagined working from home, yet now I’m thriving in a remote role that allows me to be both productive and present in my personal life.

I also learned the power of resilience and community. The pandemic reminded me that even in isolation, human connection is essential. It reinforced my passion for helping others—whether through my marketing work in the mortgage industry, where I help people achieve their dream of homeownership, or through my small business, More Than Cheese Board, which brings people together through food and hospitality.

Most importantly, I realized that home is more than just a place—it’s a feeling of safety, comfort, and belonging. That perspective made my journey to homeownership even more meaningful. If the pandemic taught me anything, it’s that we must cherish every moment, embrace change, and create a life that truly fulfills us.
