Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Pope
Sarah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My next chapter of my life is dedicated to developing housing opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities and autism. Currently, I’m focusing on a project in the Charleston area, where we aim to create a supportive and inclusive living environment.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the main challenges is navigating the regulations and securing funding, as these projects require significant resources and planning. However, the rewards far outweigh these challenges. Seeing the positive impact on the lives of individuals and their families is immensely gratifying. It’s about more than just providing housing; it’s about fostering a sense of community and belonging.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My consulting work allows me to extend the reach of our mission by helping other organizations and individuals navigate the complexities of developing inclusive housing. Whether it’s advising on best practices, assisting with funding strategies, or providing insights on community engagement, my goal is to support and empower others to create impactful projects on their own.
What sets me apart from other is my driving belief that everyone deserves a safe, supportive, and inclusive place to call home.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I had no experience developing a neighborhood before we started the Oak Tree Farm project. I’d like to encourage anyone who’s interested in making a difference to get involved in their communities and don’t be afraid of a challenge.
