Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Hodge
Hi Sarah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am grateful for Jesus Christ allowing me to tell my story and truly appreciate the opportunity! You never know how your tools for coping will come back to help free others. Journaling and dancing have always been the way I coped with life’s circumstances. Hey Ya’ll! I’m Sarah Hodge and I have lived in Columbia, SC, for the majority of my life. My Parents, The Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands, and my family’s church shaped my adolescent years. I learned at an early age what it meant to have determination for what you want in life and working until you achieve it. Working as a junior staff member, the job gave me a passion to pour into those younger than me. Throughout my teenage to young adult years of schooling, I discovered a love for poetry. It helped me express the trauma of rejection, inappropriate connections, and low self esteem in more ways than I could imagine. God gave me the gift of creativity to not only express but to heal myself and heal others. Today I help others heal through my many different gifts: Singing, Dancing, and Writing. It is not by chance that my business’s mission is “To help readers become writers and specialize in helping children write through their pain and trauma.”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely, not! I am a visual person and analogies are helpful. For me, my journey has been like the roads in SC. On some parts of the road, it’s a smooth ride until you see that first pothole. You avoid that pothole only to be met by a deeper one that shakes the frame of your vehicle. Keeping that in mind, my potholes have been the lack of true self worth, childhood trauma, and a broken home.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a local book publisher and author. GC Publishing House LLC is dedicated to turning readers into writers and specializes in helping children write through their pain and trauma. I like the word accomplished rather than proud. In my business, I would say I feel accomplished in being able to write, publish, and print beautiful stories that focus on healing. That’s really what GC Publishing House LLC was created for and I am grateful.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
To be honest, I’m not sure. Maybe me having two cats.
