Rising Stars: Meet Patch Whisky of Park Circle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patch Whisky.

Hi Patch, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a kid growing up in the mountains of West Virginia, I was inspired heavily by Saturday Morning Cartoons, Nintendo, and the Graffiti rolling through my small town on the sides of trains. I would say the fascination of those things got my wheels turning when I picked up a pencil. I took art classes through school, ended up going to an Art School in Pittsburgh where I got to be around the people that were painting trains and walls. Started going out with them learning the ways. This is where I started learning the ways of the spray can. Meeting other people through the years that paint has opened up doors and opportunities to get me where I am today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Its a daily grind. I dont think the road has or ever will be smooth. All the things that come with being a full time Visual Artist was not in the “guide book”. I Have to wear all the hats. Making the art is just a portion of what I have to do to keep the machine moving forward. The technology keeps advancing, trends are changing, social media evolving… It’s a lot. But it has to be done. I feel like I am always having to learn new programs and ways to do things.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Visual Artist. My main focus is on painting. From canvas and found objects, to walls and other large structures that I can’t take home with me. I am also heavy into computer illustrations that focus on my merchandise. all the printable gear from shirts, socks, bags or whatever I can get printed on. I am also doing 3D sculpting on the computer that revolves around making toys and 3d prints of my creations. I guess I am mostly known for my walls that I have painted across the Country. Right now, I am still painting large scale but I have added a lot more computer work into the mix that I want to explore.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Just quit saying you wanna do it and just dive in and let it take over. You have to be disciplined. Keep your head down and get to it. Find all the things that you love that inspires you and throw that in the mix of developing your style. Keep your mind open to new ideas. Stay fluid.
