Rising Stars: Meet Mitch James and Jody Sandoval of Columbia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mitch James and Jody Sandoval.

Mitch and Jody, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Mitch was working at a construction company prior to me. Then I came along and we started working together at the same company. After a few years of working together, we decided to work for ourselves. We started Rockin Reno’s early May 2022. I (Jody) am fifth generation in construction and Mitch has over 20 years experience himself. Ever since we have work together as one. We compliment each other in experience with offsetting each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Obviously there are struggles. We’ve had to deal with job loss and small extended periods of no work. But this has always been any construction companies start and expected. Now we are booking out anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks at a time.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’d say our ability to adjust to many different styles of projects. Whether it be those jobs where our creative abilities make the customers dream come true, and all the way down to quick handyman style of work. But definitely the most we are known for is in the world of decks and fences. Especially when we have creative freedoms to build ones dream. It where we strive!

What do you like and dislike about the city?
The only dislikes we have are the many hoops some parts of the inner city makes a contractor go through. Other than that we love all parts of Columbia. From the historical houses to the new houses and businesses . We do it all just about, what we don’t do, we have great partners we work with to make it all happen.
