Today we’d like to introduce you to Lydia Atkins.
Hi Lydia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started when Leo arrived on our families farm as my (Joanna) 14th birthday gift! Leo is a Highland calf, who is as sweet as can be. I, Joanna, spent almost every hour of everyday training him. Then my older sister, Lydia, and I saw on social media a bunch of fun photo props including highland cows and decided to give it a try. I, Lydia, have been doing photography for a few years on the side apart from my full time job in the restaurant industry. Joanna makes the props and I take the photos. We started this idea in the first of November doing Thanksgiving shoots. We got 30+ bookings within a week and were shocked! We then did it for Christmas and now Valentine’s Day and we’re already planning for Easter.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s overall been a great experience!! The “hardest” part of it all is getting Leo to work with our schedules and not his own haha! It’s almost like trying to get a big dog to sit on command and not move for long periods of times. We have had the best clients, who have really just worked with us and him and his schedule! He overall has done so incredibly considering this all!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are a sister team specializing in on the farm photography with Leo, the adorable highland cow. We are known for our very affordable photography that can include Leo or not. We’ve worked so hard to do things to set ourselves apart from others and strive to make fun and relaxed shoots for families, individuals, couples, and even pets. Our farm, that we do this on, is a 25 acre private family farm located in Landrum, SC. Leo has 4 cow siblings, a mini donkey sister, 2 turkeys siblings, and about 40 chicken brother and sisters that he roams the farm with! Located in a secluded part of the farm, is a family run, family operated Airbnb called the Retreat at Brecht Farm that Leo greets all the guests at as well! The farm is a perfect spot to come enjoy a fun, relaxed photo session at, with Leo on the farm.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Joanna and I both are very family involved, and have both grown up on farms. We have both always been very entrepreneurial. Always looking for business ideas that we could start. Out of all of our 11 siblings, we have always been the most alike and similar. We are both very outgoing and business like and have always set high goals in life!
