Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Small
Hi Lauren, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been interested in real estate in some capacity. Growing up, we lived in a new subdivision while it was first being developed. I loved watching all of the homes being built and would explore the construction sites, pretending that I lived there. It’s probably where my love of homes started. My grandmother was a real estate agent and would often work at the model home in another subdivision and I loved going to work with her. There’s just something about that crisp new home smell. I decided to get my real estate license back in 2022 thinking I would work part time. That quickly grew and now I love serving clients full time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think the biggest challenge has been learning to juggle work and home life. When I first started working, I did not anticipate needing consistent childcare so soon but as business quickly grew, I had to pivot and figure out what worked for us as a family. Add in a newborn in my first few years of real estate, it was an exciting but challenging time. The great thing about real estate is the flexibility. I was able to bring my newborn with me everywhere the first year of her life from showings to closings and it was such a blessing.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work as a real estate agent across the Midlands of South Carolina. They say, when you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. And as cheesy as that sounds, it’s so true. I don’t feel like I have a job. I feel like I’m a matchmaker of sorts. Finding the perfect home for my client and marketing their current home to find the perfect buyer.
While I love helping everyone looking to make a move in the Midlands, I specialize in homesteading. Whether a client is looking for a large yard to grow a kitchen garden or 40 acres to create a self-sufficient property, I walk them through their goals and dreams and help them get there.
Buying a homesteading property can be very different than a typical home purchase. With land, we need to envision what your overall goal is, get perc testing and surveys, consult with builders, and check on any restrictions that would prohibit you from accomplishing your goals. I can help from the land purchase, all the way through your home build to make for a smoother process for you. With homes, I can help plan out your property from garden zones to chicken coop location, recommend the proper inspections, and more.
I always strive to do everything I can to make the home buying and home selling process as enjoyable and stress-free for my clients as possible. I’m serious about protecting my clients and negotiating but enjoy having fun with them during the process as well. When selling their home, I help them prepare and stage their home for success on the market. When buying, I help them envision the potential in each home, and I can help with design choices as well for remodels.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Nature is my happy place. I love gardening. It’s a way that I am able to let go and relax while still being productive. This is probably a huge reason I love helping buy homes on acreage and land. Getting to hike through woods and plan out gardens is a great way to spend an afternoon any day. My favorite thing to do with my family is go on nature walks down to our creek and just explore. I’m starting to learn more about foraging and that’s really exciting. Being able to walk and find wild muscadines going for a mid-hike snack is just so fun. My clients always laugh when I point all the way across the yard and shout, “There’s blueberries here!”
