Hi LaToya, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Candle Lit Nights was started in 2021 after the pandemic. Like many people I realized I was alot of things for the people in my life, and began to suffer from anxiety and depression. The only time I could get my thoughts to slow down was at night on my balcony with my candle. I realized then that many people suffer from not making time for themselves. I decided that everyone needs that special reminder to do something for themselves, and with that Candle Lit Nights was born.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to being an entrepreneur is definitely rocky one. When I first began my journey I allowed my ex to be my business manager which seemed to be going well at first. I was able to get my candles into the local Feed and Seed, and had some okay market sales. Once we broke up I lost the majority of my customer base seeing that most of them were his friends. I am slowly regrowing my customer base, and have learned what my target audience is. Candle Lit Nights is about relaxation, and mindfulness.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I make handcrafted soy wax candles. I am known for my custom scents that you can’t find anywhere. My scents are all handcrafted and go from room to room. I am most proud of the fact that I remind people to take time for themselves daily.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as being able to provide opportunities for others. Inspiring people to take care of their mental health, and being able to feed and donate to the homeless. Money will come and go, but being able to help others is real success.
