Today we’d like to introduce you to LaShonda Prim.
Hi LaShonda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am LaShonda Prim, wife of Aswad Prim and mother of 7 Brandon, AJ, Kai’Asya, Darius, Antoine, Asjiah and Aiyana. Disabled Army combat veteran, transformational speaker, author and entrepreneur. I am the owner of Dream Essentials Skin and body care company. Throughout everything I do, I’m most inspired that I get to teach other women how to turn their struggles into a duffle by showing them how to have a changed mindset, escape poverty and create products and service that will allow them to live the life they desire. My story has always been one of learning how to overcome obstacles, have big vision and adapting to change. From being a medically discharged from the military for a chronic health condition to being a domestic violence survivor, going through traumatic divorce, being told if I didn’t lose weight I would die due to swelling in my skull and more! I’ve taught myself how to get through depression, anxiety, and self doubt because I focused on my relationship with God more than the connection to all the problems I faced. God gave me a vision that I would motivate and empower women around the world on how to M.O.V.E this was to motivate women to overcome obstacles, vision, success, and embrace change. However, there was still one thing that I couldn’t figure out, and it was how to not worry about generating income. God revealed to me that everything I’ve been through could be turned into a product or service to generate income and that’s what I began doing. In now have 3 books & 2 businesses and a proven strategy to back it up. I absolutely love that I get to share it with women around the world through 1 on 1 coaching and speaking.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life challenges have created obstacles for me since I was 17 years old. Actually, I created this start through disobedience because it was when I had my first child. Yes, I was a teen mother and because of my decisions then, life created an ongoing effect of me trying to make up for it. I felt like I always had a point to prove that I would be successful and so would my child. Later I enlisted in the US Army where I served as a unit supply specialist for almost 5 years. However due to chronic disorders that were triggered by high levels of stress, called non epileptic seizure, Intracranial Hypertension and vasovagal syncope I was labeled “Not Fit For Duty” and medically discharged. Combined with depression and anxiety life seemingly began to get worst even as I continued to work for the military as a civilian. There were many days I simply couldn’t function at work or felt so bad I couldn’t make it to work and of course that was a problem. I was the employee they couldn’t fire but they made it known I wasn’t working to their standards by the way I was treated. Not all of my supervisors were like this however, the higher powers that were, definitely made it hard on them until it became hard on me. As they say, we all know that po*p rolls down hill and the person at the bottom gets it the worst.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a transformational speaker, author and entrepreneur. In 2014 I created Dazzling Divas Empowering Women Towards to Success where my mission is to Motivate women to Overcome obstacles Vision success and Embrace change.(M.O.V.E.). I am the owner of Dream Essentials Skin and body care which is a handmade, all natural skincare line. I also have a passion for mentoring teen girls and creating a safe place for them to express themselves because I don’t want to see young ladies make the same mistakes I did. Currently i’m also getting more involved with the disability community to raise awareness for women battling chronic illnesses. Throughout all of this, I am most proud of the impact that I’ve made in the lives of other women and girls and most of it was through volunteering my personal time of over 6000 hours. I believe that im set apart from most traditional speakers because of my authenticity, passion to see others thrive and I’m not afraid to share my story.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I severely continued to suffer with anxiety, depression and PTSD however in n 2023 I was blessed to have a Golden Doodle name Snow Bella who is now a fully trained service dog with the help of an organization called Service Dogs for vets. This was one time I felt like my cup was being poured into because this was donated to me and I will always be so appreciative. She has brought so much joy to both me and my family. Before I got her I was so timid afraid to step out alone because of the overwhelming felling of anxiety around large crowds and even going through the training with new people was stressful but now were out everywhere almost. She can sense when im getting elevated or stressed and she will give me hugs and even snuggle with me.
My goal by 2026 is to teach 1000 women how to create a product or service that they can use to generate consistent income.
