Rising Stars: Meet Kathryn Hanna of Greenwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathryn Hanna

Hi Kathryn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started with a blonde. In the spotlights, in front of film cameras and bright lights, there was an undiscovered talent for all things at whisk. As a junior in high school, Kathryn Hanna, the creator of Baked By Blondie, had a mission. Her mission was to establish a business, but not just any type of business. She had a goal to establish a business as (extra)vagant as her.

Growing up in small town Greenwood, things seemed oddly basic. She grew up in the same two-story old fashioned house, with stimulation for the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. In her early teen years, she began her film and modeling career. With the hustle on set, it drove her crazy (but the type of crazy she craved.)

The strike hits. Jobs begin to become limited if not extinct for the blonde in the year of 2023. Bored of the silence, Kathryn knew she needed to do something. In the beginning of 2024, she discovered a love for crafting desserts, after her dad decided to switch to a fully keto diet. You might think to yourself.. that’s unfortunate for him. But truly /this/ was the beginning of the bougie bakery. One night, whilst in the kitchen preparing to fix her dad one of his former favorite desserts, she struggled. How could one make the perfect strawberry cheesecake cake keto? After testing, trial and error, she finally served him. With a smile across his face, he simply nodded. “You should let others try.” The next day, she did. Many bounced back and forth about how she should start her own bakery and as of March of 2024 Baked By Blondie was established. After creating her first post, came her first order, an order sent in by a local high school friend for a box of cookies.

And so, that’s the story of how that simple box of brown butter chocolate chip cookies blossomed into what is now, Baked By Blondie.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall the path has been fairly smooth. Unfortunately, small businesses are very hard to grow but with countless hours, days, and months, Kathryn continues to strive to figure out strategies to broaden her brand and bake up people’s day by giving out samples and being consistent on her facebook page.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Starting my business as a junior in high school, whilst balancing out many personal life challenges has been one of the biggest accomplishments in my entire life. As for my business I specialize in all things “boutique-bakery.” Custom services in one of my specialties as well as menu items, fit for any occasion.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Facebook, Facebook, Facebook! Without the continuous support received on Facebook, I would be far from where I am right now. I also can’t be more grateful for my community in Greenwood. I’ve gotten to connect with so many other growing businesses and have seen people grow their babies, just like I grow mines.

As far as skill, I’m self-taught but will always cherish my grannies cooking and believe a lot of my passion for the kitchen came from her, although she passed when I was only five.
