Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Burke.
Hi Joe , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I moved to the Carolinas from Upstate New York in 2012 after graduating high school. I went on to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance from USC Upstate, and soon began working for a few government contracting companies. While the experience was valuable, I quickly realized the 9-to-5 corporate life wasn’t for me.
A friend of mine was working in mold testing and remediation at the time and encouraged me to get certified. I took his advice, got certified, and started working in that field—but I knew I wanted something that could support me financially for the long haul.
In 2019, I became a licensed Home Inspector and decided to fully commit by leaving my corporate job. Early on, I struggled to find anyone locally willing to help me learn the ropes. So, I started driving two hours daily to North Carolina to shadow and work with experienced inspectors there. That time on the road was worth every mile—it gave me the foundation I needed to succeed.
Eventually, I connected with Shawn, a great inspector based in South Carolina, who helped me understand the finer details of the business. We’ve since become good friends and talk nearly every day. These days, we’re both so busy we regularly refer clients and agents back and forth.
Six years later, we are still staying booked out and are looking for inspectors to hire.
Once I got too busy I hired my dad and we are known as the father son inspection team (Joe & Joe)
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I first got licensed, I quickly realized that no local inspectors were willing to help or let me shadow them. So I started driving two hours each way to North Carolina just to gain hands-on experience. It was exhausting, but it was the only way to truly learn the craft and build the confidence I needed.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a licensed home inspector with a focus on delivering detailed, honest, and client-centered inspections. I work with both homebuyers and real estate agents to help them fully understand the condition of a property with no shortcuts. I’m known for going above and beyond, whether that means fitting in last-minute inspections for agents, taking the time to explain findings to first-time buyers, or staying available after the inspection to answer questions. What sets me apart is how much I care about getting it right. I treat every home like it’s my own, and every client like family.
We offer Home Inspections, Pre Listing Inspections, Mold Testing, Radon Testing, Well Water Testing, Termite Inspections and Sewer Scopes
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Shawn, a fellow home inspector and now a close friend, was one of the first to offer real support when I was getting started. He shared knowledge, answered questions, and continues to be someone I talk to almost every day as we both navigate the ups and downs of this industry. My parents and now wife, Lauren were actually the ones who encouraged me to take the leap and quit my corporate job. Their support gave me the confidence to go all in on myself and pursue something I believed in. My wife, Lauren Burke, has been my rock through it all—patient, supportive, and understanding throughout the long hours.
My dad works with me now and I could’t have done it without him. I love working with him everyday. We are known as the father son inspection team (Joe & Joe). My dad deserves the most credit! I could not be this successful without him.
