Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim Bissette.
Hi Jim, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Generations Photography and Video, LLC began over 20 years ago with a simple interest in cameras and a job in the wedding industry at a local print shop in Rexburg, Idaho. Being around wedding photos every day sparked something in Jim — he became fascinated with capturing meaningful moments. Determined to learn, he dove into understanding camera functionality, teaching himself through countless hours of research and hands-on experience.
His first weddings were as a second shooter for friends who wanted beautiful photos but didn’t have the budget for a large photography package. Those early experiences built both skill and passion. What started as curiosity quickly grew into something much bigger.
After moving to South Carolina, Jim met Lindsay, who saw the potential in his talent and encouraged him to pursue photography more seriously. With her support and belief in the vision, Generations Photography evolved into Generations Photography and Video, LLC — a husband-and-wife team dedicated to serving couples on one of the most important days of their lives.
Today, Jim leads as the primary photographer and videographer, while Lindsay, a full-time high school special education teacher, serves as second shooter and assistant. Together, they combine creativity, organization, and heart. Their shared goal is simple: to help clients celebrate their most meaningful moments and preserve memories that will last for generations.
When they’re not working weddings, Jim enjoys hiking and spending time outdoors with family, and Lindsay loves reading, gardening, and staying active. Family is at the center of everything they do — and that value carries into how they serve every couple they work with.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey hasn’t always been smooth — and we wouldn’t expect it to be! Like many small business owners, we’ve faced our share of challenges along the way. Early on, learning the technical side of photography and videography was a steep curve. Jim taught himself everything about cameras, lighting, and editing, often through trial and error. There were also the financial hurdles of building a business — investing in equipment and marketing.
Balancing careers and family has been another challenge. Lindsay is a full-time high school teacher, so coordinating schedules, attending weddings, and managing the business together required careful planning and sacrifice. There were times when it felt like the workload was overwhelming, or when a wedding didn’t go as smoothly as hoped.
But each challenge became a lesson. The drive for success pushed us to grow, get creative, and strengthen our teamwork. Today, those struggles have made Generations Photography and Video, LLC what it is — a resilient, passionate husband and wife team that truly values the trust couples place in us to capture their most important moments.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Jim and Lindsay Bissette are the husband-and-wife team behind Generations Photography and Video, LLC. We specialize in wedding photography and videography, along with engagements and bridal sessions. We also offer family sessions, senior portraits, and real estate photography, allowing us to serve our clients through multiple seasons of life.
Weddings are at the heart of what we do. We are known for capturing genuine emotion, timeless portraits, and meaningful in-between moments that tell the full story of a wedding day. Our style blends classic, true-to-color imagery with candid storytelling. We strive to create a relaxed and organized experience so our couples can fully enjoy their day while trusting that every important detail is being preserved.
What sets us apart is our partnership — both in marriage and in business. We understand weddings not just as vendors, but as a couple who deeply values family, commitment, and legacy. Because we work side by side, we bring a natural rhythm and unity to the wedding day. We take pride in being dependable, calm under pressure, and fully invested in every wedding we photograph.
What we are most proud of isn’t simply the images we deliver — it’s the relationships we build. Many of our couples return for anniversary sessions, family portraits, and refer their friends and loved ones because they felt genuinely cared for beyond just the contract. For us, it’s not just about documenting a single day — it’s about preserving memories that will be cherished for generations to come.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One of the most important lessons we’ve learned on our journey with Generations Photography and Video, LLC is that photography is far more about people than it is about cameras.
Early on, the focus was mastering equipment, lighting, settings, and technique. While those skills absolutely matter, we’ve learned that what truly makes a wedding day successful is connection — building trust with our couples, staying calm when timelines shift, and serving with a steady, reassuring presence. Couples may not remember every pose, but they will always remember how they felt.
We’ve also learned the value of partnership — in marriage and in business. Working together has taught us to communicate clearly, support one another’s strengths, and stay unified under pressure. That unity carries into every wedding we photograph.
Most importantly, we’ve learned that this work is about legacy. We aren’t just delivering digital files; we’re preserving moments that will outlive all of us. Keeping that perspective has shaped how we approach every wedding — with intention, gratitude, and a deep sense of responsibility.
