Rising Stars: Meet Jessa Frances of Charleston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessa Frances

Hi Jessa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Born in Indiana, I grew up a small town country girl in the midwest with a deep love for nature. I loved to write, act, and was incredibly creative. With a lot of pride and also a lot of uncertainty for what I really wanted in life, I joined the Air Force right out of high school and began my adult life as an airmen serving in Texas, Montana and Iraq. I became a young mother at the end of my enlistment and was married into the military. By the time I gave up my military id, I had been living on or affiliated with a military base for almost 20 years. I am still strongly tied to the military. In 2019, right after graduating for college with a degree in English and two minors in art and creative writing, I ended up getting divorced. We had been unhappily married for a long time but with three young children it was an incredibly difficult decision to make. With a lot of confusion in my heart and mind, I signed up for a one year master’s degree program in Scotland where I could further my education. While there, I began the deep dive work of writing my memoirs as part of my program. While writing my stories, I traversed across the hills of Scotland and ended up finding much more than just the standing stones and the beautiful highlands; I found myself. I uncovered the programing and the generational trauma that had been holding me and my family back. Since then, I have become a trauma-informed yoga teacher, a non-alcoholic beverage consultant and a memoir writing coach in order to help other women work their way through their shadow work and take on their lives with my mindfulness, clarity, confidence, and authenticity.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been easy. Getting a divorce was a very difficult decision and moving to Scotland was even harder because I went solo without my children. The hardest part was that shortly after arriving in Scotland COVID hit and I ended up going through a profound amount of loneliness and longing – with an immense amount of shame and guilt weighing me down. It was what motivated me however to make sure that I made that time worth it for myself and for my children.

When I got back to the states, I moved to Charleston and helped start up the alcohol-free boutique on King Street, Sechey. Starting up your own business is no small feat. I am now building my own company, The Caim Circle. A membership to help others do self-discovery and find self-awareness and self love through holistic practices like yoga, somatic movement, breathwork, meditation, journaling and specifically memoir writing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
On Instagram you will see that my profile calls me The Memoir Mama, but what I really do is help clients and my members move through shadow work which is a profound practice of self-inquiry and healing that allows us to bring awareness to the unconscious patterns, beliefs, and narratives that shape our lives. I combine shadow work with different yogic practices to support them through the process. It is a truly unique and incredible experience that can not only help you better know and understand yourself but also help you process trauma and reset your nervous system.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
You can set up appointments with me online or at The Container Collective downtown Charleston. I offer lots of women’s circles, ceremonies, and other fun events as well. Also, if you are interested in the alcohol-free beverage world, reach out! I have tasted and tried almost every product on the market and love helping others own their relationship with alcohol (and anything else they consume).
