Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Bryson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I’ve always been a creative. I’ve dreamed of becoming a designer since I learned how to sew at 12 years old. One day, after a long shift at a nightclub, I decided to make a few costumes just out of the blue. I took them to work with me the next day and sold all of them. That was all it took to invest more in myself and start my business, Taylr19. I practiced my sewing techniques every single day. Most of the time, I was destroying fabric back then, but it didn’t stop me from getting better.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It could have been a smoother road for me. Most of the struggles I experienced were from me. I had to learn patience, time management, and, most of all, consistency. I had no clue how to effectively construct a garment when I started. I was so determined that I could do it all on my own to the point I was going in circles. I taught myself how to sew, but there was so much more to it. I would start projects without completing or throwing them away because I “messed it up.” I would even stop sewing for months if I felt I didn’t make enough one day. After taking some professional classes and taking accountability for my faults, my business started getting better and more busy.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a seamstress. I specialize in swimwear and spicy dancewear. Everyone knows me for making exotic dancewear and revamping jerseys into dresses. I am most proud of doing what I wanted as a creative. What sets me apart from others is me. My love for my craft is what sells my craft. I could sew daily and not make a dime, which shows through my work.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned is to stay consistent. Keep working. Keep promoting yourself. Keep putting your work out there to be seen.
