Rising Stars: Meet James Day of Carolina Forest (Myrtle Beach)

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Day

James , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always loved music, I grew up in Danville, KY, going to school with Eddie Montgomery kids (from Montgomery Gentry). Country music was all around me and connected me to life, I then married and had 3 daughters, settling down in to raise them in Virginia. She was a very successful wedding/ event planner and we spent our weekends with other great wedding vendors. I always thought the DJ’s were cool and it intrigued me. And then, about 8 years ago; an owner/ friend called; he had a DJ quit on Monday and wanted to teach me to DJ by Saturday to cover a wedding for him. The rest is history, kind of. I DJ’d weddings for 4 years in Virginia, playing what everyone requested for their weddings. Then, 4 years ago we moved to Myrtle Beach and I expanded the company to South Carolina. Myrtle Beach & Charleston brought night clubs, concerts, festivals, etc. I soon found a love for House/ Club/ EDM music. I also soon found requests from all over the country to play for them. Last year, I opened for ALABAMA, MC’s for ESPN, DJ’d for Broadway at the Beach, Lexus USA, CCU, Univ of SC and so many more. I truly have found my voice and passion in music…..and just goes to show, you can start a dream at any age.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. Coming from the Virginia Market to Myrtle Beach & National Market has its challenges of new equipment, constant training, an ever changing music market and clients, earning acceptance & trust from other vendors/ companies/ DJs.

There is never a time that I don’t need to practice, learn and improve to keep getting booked and be relevant on the national market.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a local, regional, national DJ.
I do all kinds of events: weddings, festivals, restaurants, colleges, sporting events, clubs, etc
I specialize in two areas- professional hired Dj for any event and Club DJing.
What sets me apart- is being on the national level, where I’m not just the DJ behind he booth, people come to watch me and entertain them. You can often find me behind the booth dancing, jumping up and down and feeling the music.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Hard Work, Constant Training and Dependability

I also have a partners in this, that we call the Magic.
I’m the DJ/ Face of DJ DAYZ
But, Shannon (Roy) is the behind the scenes is the trainer, office person, billing, technical, contracts, etc.
