Rising Stars: Meet Fatima Golden of Greenville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fatima Golden

Hi Fatima, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
From a young age I picked up a camera and loved it even if it was just a disposable camera from CVS. Later on in high school I got the chance to use real cameras through the class yearbook and I just fell in love with the art of it. A few months later I bought my own camera and that was the start of it all.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would love to say it was a smooth road but honestly it wasn’t. It is already hard being a woman in a male dominated field so it times it felt like people thought they could just walk over me, but I learned that I would also have to stand up for my self and show this is where Im supposed to be. But I also had surgery throughout one of my busiest times it was hard to sit down and just relax and for a while it was even hard to hold my camera. But I came back even better.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My art or specialty I would say is photography. My main type is sports photography but I have been to do lots of other types. Some of my favorite have been portrait or studio shoots. It’s been a difficult road handling everything but I proud of myself for finding my passion and a young age. I would definitely say I love trying new things with photography so every shoot is very creative.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
More the years go by the photography industry has grown so much. People always want photos and I hope to see more people get into. I hope in 5 – 10 years we see a lot more diversity and more creativity in the photography world.
