Rising Stars: Meet April Renee of Charleston

Today we’d like to introduce you to April Renee

Hi April , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hey there my name is April Renee, I moved to Charleston actually after I was involved in a carjacking in Baltimore Maryland, I am originally from Harford county and was gigging in Baltimore. I came here for vacation a few weeks after this happened and took a leap of faith; since moving here I’ve been playing music full time, started a songwriter night called “Cre8tive Friends” which has now become a Facebook platform popping up in other cities, NYC, Baltimore, Nashville and soon Atlanta, we started off at East bay meeting house, what started as an idea into an industry night has turned into a full blown network across the Easter coast. I also have recently had one of my cover songs “I can’t help falling in love with you” hit 200,000 streams. I made the anthem for the Facebook community/platform GIRL GONE INTERNATIONAL, which is for women living abroad, I spent 5 years in France prior to Covid.

I’ve been living in Charleston South Carolina for a year and half, and they’ve really accepted me here and my music, social media and business has taken off. It’s been an honor and a wonderful experience to be apart of the community here, and the response has been overwhelming. I’m truly so blessed and all I can say, is that I felt like after that experience, being involved in a violent crime, my relationship with Jesus and my relationship to music has taken new heights. Charleston has been so good to me, and has helped me heal though music and friendship. I am grateful for every opportunity and would love for people to check out my orignal songs. You can find me on streaming platforms at April Teppe.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, as I explained, I was involved in a violent crime, moving alone to Charleston was a leap of faith, getting my foot in the door and getting opportunities was not a 123 stop shop. I hired content creators to film my gigs, spent many days waking up at 6am for work, working 3-4 jobs, getting home at midnight, even when the gigs came, I still had the same schedule, 75 hour weeks is not for the faint of heart. It’s finally being noticed and the response from the public has made me feel so inspired and I’m grateful to be here, play music, and also help inspire others and take everything I’ve learned into helping other new artists get started and guide them on the path to success.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Musician- singer songwriter

One thing I’m incredibly proud of is my work with Girl Gone International, helping build a community, writing the anthem for a global platform that has 1 million members across the world. It’s something I’m honored to be apart of and proud to have learned so much from.

I’m also very proud of the community I’ve been building here in the USA, singer songwriter networking nights, singer songwriter showcases and circles across the east coast, “Cre8tive Friends” was inspired by the accomplishments I had with girl gone international. I feel blessed to see the songwriting community in Charleston growing as well as other cities along the east coast joining our movement.

I am currently releasing new music and working with amazing talented artists and producers. I can’t wait to share my new music with the world ❤️

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Cre8tive friends is rapidly growing and we are always looking for new artists, songwriters, producers, sound engineers and professionals in the music industry to work with. I’d love to continue to grow communities across the countries, and give new songwriters a place to showcase their talents.
