Hi Ann, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I became a nurse in Michigan 28 years ago and have always loved the OB part of healthcare. Working in labor and delivery as well as the maternity side, I found I loved making connections with new moms and being able to follow the unique journeys they were on during their pregnancies. I started working in 3D imaging in Michigan, I then moved to South Carolina in 2020 and worked for a local 3D imaging office. I decided I wanted to expand the services we offered, as well as tailor each experience for the families individually to provide an inclusive, financially accessible, calm and joyful lifelong memory.
Being able to provide 2D 3D 4D ultrasounds for women in our community was just the beginning. We wanted to be able to expand that to include new pregnancies as early as 6 weeks. We provide confirmation ultrasounds for anyone 6 weeks or more, weeks before they are able to get into a local OB office or Midwifery. Knowing we are able to give these families a little peace of mind and reduce that waiting time to confirm the pregnancy is progressing, is priceless. Some of these families have experienced a previous loss and we are the only office in the area to be able to provide a little bit of relief with having the ability to offer external as well as internal ultrasounds.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Knowing I wanted to open my own office and be able to provide multiple ultrasounds, as well as other OB services was a long time coming. I worked for many years in the field, learning what families wanted, then finally took the plunge and opened my own office August 2025. Being able to have total autonomy over the services we provided, the ability to also offer in office blood draws, heartbeat recordings and even a little clothing boutique was a dream come true. It took a lot of years to be able to do things the way I wanted them to be done, but taking my time and making sure to include everything and everyone, was worth the wait.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Here at Peek a Boo Premier Ultrasounds we provide 2D 3D and 4D transabdominal ultrasounds (ultrasounds done on the mother’s abdomen). We continue to educate the public as often as possible to the difference between these ultrasounds and the safety of having multiple ultrasounds. We are proud to have a state-of-the-art GE Voluson ultrasound machine, which is the gold standard of many OB offices throughout the country.
A 2D ultrasound uses soundwaves to create flat, two-dimensional images of the baby, providing a clear view of a baby’s development.
A 3D ultrasound uses the same soundwaves used in a 2D ultrasound. Using multiple 2D images the ultrasound machine renders them together, creating a more life-like, three-dimensional view of your baby.
A 4D ultrasound is again using the same 2D soundwaves, with the ultrasound machine taking thousands of images and putting them together in 3D images that are in “real time”. This creates “real time” movement of baby inside the womb.
High Definition (also known as 5D) ultrasounds are where the ultrasound software can manipulate skin tones and image depth to create advanced realistic images.
Here at Peek a Boo Premier Ultrasounds, we are the only office that can also offer transvaginal ultrasounds. This is where we are able to place a transducer (probe) internally so we are able to get closer to the uterus and see earlier pregnancies that wouldn’t be visible through the soft tissue on an abdomen. These early ultrasounds can be done at 6 weeks pregnant and be able to give families the peace of mind to confirm a pregnancy weeks before being able to get into a local OB office.
We also provide blood draws as early as 6 weeks pregnant to determine the gender of the baby!
Here at Peek a Boo Premier Ultrasounds, we are the only office within in the Upstate and surrounding areas, that offer transvaginal ultrasounds. This is where we are able to place a transducer (probe) internally so we are able to get closer to the uterus and see earlier pregnancies that wouldn’t be visible through the soft tissue on an abdomen. These early ultrasounds can be done at 6 weeks pregnant and be able to give families the peace of mind to confirm a pregnancy weeks before being able to get in to a local OB office.
We also provide in office blood draws as early as 6 weeks pregnant to determine the gender of the baby within 2 days! (determining gender with an ultrasound can be done at 15 weeks)
We are extremely proud and excited to be the only 3D office in SC and NC to offer an onsite Spanish translator for Saturday appointments. Being able to translate the entire visit breaks down that language barrier and allows all families to be completely involved and understand each part of the ultrasound.
We are also proud to offer a wide variety of Heartbeat Animals, allowing guests to record their baby’s heartbeat to place inside of a stuffed animal for families to take home. We also offer custom jewelry where the baby’s scanned heartbeat is etched onto the item of your choosing. Our in-office baby boutique offers clothing for preemie to 12 months, as well as other items including pacifiers, bottles, diapers, and high-end products from Carters, Bella Tunno and Mary Meyer, all at up to 50% off the suggested retail prices. This allows us to be able to have families of all walks of life be able to afford the items we have in the boutique.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Taking the chance to opening and owning a business was a huge decision. Knowing I wanted to offer local families a place to come in and really feel like they are not only welcome, but a part of a family, was a pretty lofty goal, but one that has been so completely fulfilling. It was daunting to look at the amount of loans needed, the inventory and equipment to purchase, finding a space that allowed us the room to provide the best services and signing a 5 year lease.
I had never been a huge risk taker before this new business, and it took me almost a year of research, market analysis and soul searching before making the leap – and it was the best decision I could have made.
