Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber-Drew Foster.
Amber-Drew, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story starts a little differently than most!
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and a love for creativity. My journey began in college when my dad gave me my first camera, sparking what would become more than 20 years in photography. Over the years, I’ve captured everything from weddings and senior portraits to beach photography—each experience deepening my passion for storytelling through images.
My journey hasn’t been without challenges. As a single mom to two incredible autistic children, I’ve learned the power of resilience and reinvention. After losing their dad and my co-parent, I was faced with rebuilding life in a whole new way. One rooted in strength, faith, and purpose. That season inspired me to pivot into a behind-the-scenes role as a content creator and social media marketer, helping several local restaurants and small businesses grow their online presence.
Even with a full plate, I’ve always believed in staying connected to my community. You’ll often find me at Socastee Elementary (named Palmetto’s Finest in 2025) working as a substitute teacher. A role that allows me to connect with children, support teachers, and make a difference each day.
During the summer, I trade the classroom for the sunshine as the Entertainment and Pool Deck Coordinator at the Holiday Inn Oceanfront Resort in Surfside Beach. I work alongside incredible DJs, including DJ Brett, to create a daily poolside experience full of energy, music, and laughter for guests of all ages.
At the heart of everything I do, whether it’s through creativity, community, or connection , is a desire to bring joy and make a lasting impact. My favorite quote sums it up best:
“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”
Each and every day brings its own challenges, but I believe that as long as you show up with the intention to make a difference in the world around you, you will never fail.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every bump has taught me something valuable.
Life as a single mom to two amazing kids, both on the autism spectrum, brings its share of challenges emotionally, financially, and logistically. There have been seasons where balancing work, school, therapies, and daily life felt overwhelming. Losing my co-parent also reshaped everything I thought life would look like.
But those moments are where my strength and creativity grew the most. I learned how to pivot, how to trust my instincts, and how to find joy even when things weren’t perfect. Every obstacle pushed me to be resourceful, compassionate, and driven. Not just for myself, but for my children and the community we’re a part of.
So while the road has had plenty of twists and turns, I’m grateful for every one of them. They’ve made me who I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What sets me apart from others is that I didn’t take the traditional path.
I didn’t go to school for education I actually have a degree in vocal performance but I’ve always had a passion for teaching, mentoring, and making a difference one life at a time. I believe that creativity and connection can open doors in ways that books or lesson plans sometimes can’t.
One of my favorite examples of that happened at the school where I substitute teach. I’ve somehow become known as “the Drawing Fairy” on the kindergarten hall. It started with a shy little girl who barely spoke. One day, I drew her a small picture, and she smiled. From then on, I’d secretly drop off more drawings whenever I was at the school. Slowly, she began to open up to her classmates, her teachers, and the world around her.
That moment reminded me that sometimes the smallest acts of creativity and kindness can make the biggest impact. For me, that’s what truly sets me apart. I lead with heart, imagination, and a genuine desire to make others feel seen, valued, and encouraged
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest advice is this: don’t look at things that don’t go your way as failures—see them as stepping stones leading you in the right direction. Every setback, every pivot, and every new idea teaches you something valuable about yourself and where you’re meant to go.
I’ve started many different adventures over the years. I’ve owned a tie-dye company, a jewelry business, and even tried my hand at DJing on the side. People often ask if I ever slow down—but the truth is, I love staying busy and creating. Because when you keep moving forward, whether it’s through success or struggle, that’s when you truly discover your passion and your purpose.
