Rising Stars: Meet Amaya Bunton of Walterboro SC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amaya Bunton

Amaya, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey started when I was 5 years old and my mom passed away after her long fight with cancer. Ever since I was a little girl I always knew I had a passion for the beauty industry, as did my mom. Before she passed away she attended cosmetology school and I knew right away I wanted to follow in her footsteps. In November of 2022 I began my cosmetology school journey at epiphany beauty institute but after facing a few medical issues I transferred and graduated from Charleston Cosmetology Institute on May 4th, 2024, while in school I found a love for not only hair and makeup but nails and skin as well! I’m now waiting to take my licensing exams so I can begin taking clients at Simply Bliss Beauty Lounge in Ridgeville SC. Once I begin working i’ll be offering a wide range of services; special event hair and makeup, custom press on nails. mani and pedis, gel x nails, hair cuts and colors and many other services! Of course along the way it was hard but with the support of my friends and family I overcame every obstacle thrown my way. Without the support of my Dad, Step Mom, and Grandparents this journey would have been much harder than it was, I owe all of the glory to them! Although I only spent a short 5 years with my mom earth side, I felt her every step of the way through school and life. My mom was a fighter and never gave up which shaped me into who I am today, I pray to one day be half of the woman she was.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been an easy journey, in early 2023 I suffered a motor focal seizure as well as having an accident one month later that resulted in 5 compression fractures in my spine. But neither of those things stopped me from reaching my goal. After going through those hardships I put all of my trust and faith in God to help push me through and finish the long journey I had started.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am on the road to becoming a licensed cosmetologist in South Carolina, I specialize in hair blonding and gel x nails. I’m most proud of the improvement i’ve made when it comes to nail art and design, the progress i’ve made is significant and continues to improve everyday! I feel i’m set apart from other cosmetologist because I do everything! Rather it be coloring hair or adding a cute palm tree design to your nails or even doing makeup from a wedding, i’m the girl to call for everything beauty!
