Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Sloan.
Hi Aaron, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Born and raised in Seneca, SC, I’ve, for the past 18 years, made a name for myself in the entertainment industry in and around the Greenville, SC, area. Growing up, I’ve always loved music. From Fifth grade through graduation in 2005, I was a part of the school orchestra playing the Violin. I’m pretty rusty now, but I was perfect back then. And it was that love for music that led me to understand better music for the career I at that time had no idea that I’d still be doing to this day. My music journey started in the summer of 2004 under the mentorship of my cousin Anthony “DJ Droop” Hall (pronounced like Droopy, the dog), where I was introduced to turntablism—the art of taking two songs and creating magic or even just to keep a party going. I was over at his house so much, staying up late till 2 or 3 in the morning. I’m sure my Mom didn’t know if I moved in or what. But, it was a family tradition passed down from my late Uncle, Jeremiah “DJ Bullfrog” Hall. My uncle taught Droop, and in turn, Droop taught me. So keeping the tradition alive, I took it upon myself to become the man you see today. And while perfecting my craft by placing myself in the company of the ones I wanted to be like. I’ve been known to be able to navigate and thrive in any situation, setting myself apart from my peers. In partnership with my cousin, we worked for several years, providing music for events as a mobile DJ service. Sometime later, I worked with local talent to promote their music. To further fine-tune my skills, I also sought mentorship from a family friend, George “DJ Scientist” Kerhoulas. If you need to know who that is, just YouTube him.
Now at this time in my life, I was confident in my abilities to show anyone what I could do. I’ve been recognized as Metro City Magazine Music Award nominated “Best Mix Dj” 2010. Studio 54 Battle of the DJ’s 2012, 2nd place winner A.U.M.A Radio.com mix dj for the 4 O’clock Traffic Mix every Friday. Guest mixer for former Streetz 103.3 Charlotte. Current a member of the Hood Hard Hitmakers Dj crew. Co-creator of The Link Up open mic showcase, which ran from 2018-2020 in Greenville, SC. And creator of The Tuff Talk Podcast, which has two seasons available for listening wherever you get your podcasts. I’ve been established as one of the best South Carolina offers. Now on my new venture as Owner and Operator of my company Mixmasterz DJs & More! LLC, I’m also looking to help other DJs in my area. To provide the highest quality of entertainment that anyone has seen. Even with all of that said, there is still room to grow and more to come.
Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It could have been a smoother road. With the price of DJ equipment at the time being so high and expensive, I still feel fortunate to get my turntables as I did. And getting support from locals could be like pulling teeth. But you have to keep going and ensure all thanks go to Yahweh.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to become more familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m the owner and operator of Mixmasterz DJs & More! LLC. With 19 years of experience, I started my own company. This would help me to help other DJs get work in the area and free up some personal time for me while still providing a service. I’m known for my smooth transitions and ability to rock any event. And with that in mind, the name Mixmasterz came to be. So know anyone on my team who can mix, blend and set the party right with the best of them! I’m very proud of my support because this would be much harder without it. So it’s good to have a few great people in your corner.
As I said before, everyone on the team can mix, but I value our personal relationships with each of us the most. Especially the DJs I work with. I am not saying that other DJs don’t do this, but one thing that sets me apart from most of my fellow DJs is taking requests. For whatever reason, I hear more and more that DJs don’t want to or aren’t taking requests. Now I can completely understand if the event was put together and curated by the DJ. That would make sense because it’s their event, and they can play whatever they want. But it’s the ones that are in your everyday bar or club that do it. As long as it’s not a ridiculous request, I’ll cue it and bring it in. And the joy when a person’s face lights up as they hear their song coming in. It’s a fantastic feeling. And it makes them want to come back.
So, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you before we go? How can they support you?
If anyone wants to collaborate or work with me, they have to call or message me. I’m usually up for anything as long as it’s not too crazy. And if you want to support me, book me.
