Hi William , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a love for business. About 10 years ago a business partner of mine suggested we switch from an entertainment base to something more stable. We chose food. We’ve had our ups and downs but we’ve kept going. In 2023 me and my brother opened Gumbo House Express in Summerville with the goal of providing great food with great service!!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. There’s slow periods, equipment issues, employee issues etc… Being able to accept criticism was key for me. To listen and to learn where I needed to get better at. And we’re definitely still growing!!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Charleston is a very historic city and known for food!! So at Gumbo House Express we want to offer one of the things our city is known for. Great food!! We specialize in seafood. From our very popular seafood rice combos to our namesake gumbo!! Also Garlic crabs and shrimp!! And don’t forget the seafood mac and seafood egg rolls!! Our motto is takeout at its finest!!
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Consistency….. just through the ups and downs keep going.
