Today we’d like to introduce you to Trevon Smalls.
Hi Trevon, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started FOCUS PEOPLE as a mindset before it was ever clothes. I’m from Orangeburg, and I wanted to build something that reminded people to lock in to focus on the good, even in the chaos. The motto has always been “Take Your Time But Don’t Waste Your Time.”
I started small — a few heavyweight, cut and sewn, garment-dyed tees that were 100% screen-printed, selling out of the trunk, learning as I went. Sometimes it’s the journey that teaches you a lot about your destination. From there it grew into sweatsuits with the astronaut graphics, the ‘Focus on the Good’ hoodies, and then the hockey jerseys this past year.
Where we are today is way more intentional. It’s not just about putting a logo on a hoodie anymore. It’s a community. We’re revamping everything to be more cut-and-sew, more storytelling, less noise. Still independent, still rooted in Orangeburg, but building a uniform for people who are actually focused on where they’re going.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’m not in LA or Atlanta where you can walk into a showroom or a factory. I had to build my network from scratch finding real cut-and-sewn manufacturers who do heavyweight blanks right, who don’t shrink after one wash, who actually care about screen-print quality. You learn quick that cheap production costs you more in the long run.
Every drop from the early tees to the sweatsuits and the hockey jerseys was self-funded. When you’re paying for garment-dyed, cut-and-sewn pieces up front, one bad inventory call hurts. I had to learn business, not just design — drop timing, sizing, actually saying no to 10 ideas so 2 could be great.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
FOCUS PEOPLE is a mindset-driven streetwear brand I built out of Orangeburg, SC. What we do is simple .we make uniforms for people who are locked in. Not hype for hype’s sake, but heavyweight, intentional pieces you can actually live in.
We started with heavyweight, cut-and-sewn, garment-dyed tees — 100% screen-printed, built to last. That’s still our foundation. People know us for the astronaut and cartoon graphics, the “Focus on the Good” hoodies and sweatsuits, and more recently the hockey jerseys. Our signature is hidden storytelling — a message on an interior tag, a detail that only the wearer knows is there. Our two mantras are on everything: “Take Your Time But Don’t Waste Your Time” and “Focus on the Good.”
Most brands sell a logo. We sell focus. In a world full of distractions, we’re the anti-distraction brand. We do less, but better — micro-drops of 2-4 pieces instead of 30 random SKUs, earthy tones like washed black, clay, and off-white, and quality you can feel.
What’s next?
We’re in the middle of FOCUS PEOPLE 2.0. For the last few years we proved we could make dope stuff — tees, sweatsuits, hockey jerseys — now we’re proving we can make it intentional.
more pop-ups outside of Orangeburg, more collabs, more in-person energy. I want FOCUS PEOPLE to feel like a club for people who are locked in, with early access for day-ones, not just a website.
Long term, the vision hasn’t changed — I want FOCUS PEOPLE to be the uniform for focused people. Not just what you wear to look good, but what you wear when you’re working, creating, building. We’re taking our time, but we’re definitely not wasting it.
