Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Grant
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Absolutely! I fell in love with Pilates at a young age when realizing the reason behind my constant back pain was stemming from scoliosis. Pilates was love at first move, it was and still is the only thing that makes my body feel painless. I then decided to follow my passion so I can help others feel this way and learn more about this type of therapeutic movement. I enrolled in a comprehensive training that consisted of 600+ hours of training in New York City at Erika Bloom Pilates (across from Barneys, RIP). Since then, I have been teaching all over the country from the Hamptons, NYC, Greenwich to Turks and Caicos at Amanyara all the way to Nashville. I have been lucky enough to work with celebrities, professional athletes and people of all ages throughout the last 10 years of being an instructor. I think that working with people of all different backgrounds and stories is my favorite aspect of this career.
I then landed in Charleston three years ago and immediately fell in love with a little space in an old building downtown to open up a tiny little studio, mostly for my postpartum self to get out of the house and continue my practice. Shortly after, the studio grew from just two reformers and a Cadillac now we are at two studios and 13 machines total! I love what I do and am so grateful that I can teach people to feel good in their bodies every single day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I feel like the best things in life come with or from some sort of adversity and will challenge us to face our fears. Becoming a Pilates Instructor was hard when I first started as I was shy and not confident in myself at that time. Facing my fears and knowing that I was helping other people was a great lesson and I am so glad I stuck with it! I learned that taking the focus off my myself and focusing on helping other people is the key to success.
As you know, we’re big fans of Taylor Grant Pilates. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Taylor Grant Pilates is about working smarter not harder. We are a form focused studio that believes if you are working from the right form, your results will speak for itself. We are strengthening all of the smaller, more intrinsic muscles in order to support our joints so we can then practice other modalities in the best way. Although the product and result of the workout is looking like your best self the most important aspect of the studio is the COMMUNITY! Coming together and getting stronger as a team is what I am most proud of. Since opening up the tiny studio three years ago, I have all of the same people coming because we have become a pilates family.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I am very aware that the machines are intimidating and coming into the studio for the first time can be frightening. My advice is to face that fear and after your first session or class you will feel so proud of yourself for coming in and trying something new! If you are meant to do Pilates, you will be OBSESSED and want to come in everyday!
