Tawanna , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
There was a time I didn’t think I’d make it through. Life threw more at me than I thought I could handle — heartbreak, setbacks, self-doubt, and days where getting out of bed felt like a victory. But I kept going. I cried, I broke down, I started over — again and again. And somehow, through every storm, I found pieces of strength I didn’t know I had.
Today, I stand not as someone who’s had it easy, but as a woman who earned her peace, her confidence, and her voice. Every trial shaped me. Every tribulation taught me. I don’t share this to say I’ve “made it,” but to remind anyone reading: you can overcome, too. The woman I am today is living proof.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In November 2018, laying in a hospital bed, I felt like I had reached my lowest point. I was a single mom, taking care of my two daughters with no support. I had broken up with my long term partner of 13 years. I was in a child custody battle. My house and car was taken from me. I felt life could not get any worst at that moment. Due to the amount of stress I was under, my health was starting to be affected. I had reached “rock bottom.” I had two choices – swim or drown. I decided in that moment I wasn’t going to do either – I decided to fly instead.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice to anyone starting out is there will be days when it feels like nothing is working, when the progress is slow, and when the weight of everything you’re trying to build feels too heavy. But those are the moments that matter most. Success doesn’t shout — it whispers. It shows up in the small wins, in the lessons learned from setbacks, and in the quiet strength it takes to try again. Keep showing up. Keep putting in the work. Keep believing that your effort has value — because it does. Sometimes the breakthrough comes just one more step past the point where most people quit.
So take a breath, realign if you need to, and keep going.
