Meet Tamekia Geer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamekia Geer.

Hi Tamekia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My passion for all things beauty started a long time ago. Both of my parents had a talent for creating. My dad would do a lot of DIY projects around the house and my mom is a beautician. I was always amazed at their talent to create. I was the kid that would sneak and put on my mother’s makeup and design my outfit out of sheets and curtains. I honestly did not know the route I would go in the creative space; I just knew I wanted to make things beautiful.

Fast forward to my college years. I would practice perfecting my hair and makeup skills on my roommates. I wasn’t convinced at the time that there was any money in the industry, so I graduated with a BS in Business Management and a Minor in Marketing. After college, I married my forever best friend and I started working several jobs that was catered around self-image for about 9 years. My son arrived on 01/28/2013, I had to make a big decision; become a stay-at-home mom or pay late fees to the daycare because my job at the time was not going to work with the daycare schedule.

About 6 months into being a stay-at-home mom. I was the person that needed to work. One of my friends at the time was a counter manager for a beauty brand Estess Lauder. She convinced me to apply for a counter managers position. At the time I thought it was a great idea, but again crazy hours, which defeated the purpose. I declined the position and had to trust God that something would come up. After a few weeks, I received a call and was offered a position as a regional makeup artist for Estess Lauder. After about a year of learning and exposing myself to the art of makeup. I decided to transition into my own space. And in 2013 TamGee Artistry Studio was introduced to the world. Since 2013, I’ve helped hundreds of women prepare confidently for life’s most important moments. I’ve been an in-demand freelancer for premium beauty brands such as Kevyn Aucoin, Estée Lauder, and PÜR Cosmetics, and my work has graced the pages of magazines, television screens, film, runways, and more. I love working with like-minded individuals that want to do better with their image but have no idea where to start. In 2020 I recently added image consultant and brand strategist to my services. I also teach individual and group classes simple makeup tips to help women show up with Boss like confidence. I’ve helped transform women from all walks of life, and I’m I am looking forward to what’s next!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
OMGosh as a new business owner, the word Obstacle and Challenges was my middle name LOL, plus adding on social media. It wasn’t a brisk walk in the park. My Challenge was comparing myself to others. I would try to mimic makeup techniques and styles. I honestly didn’t know who I was. But after a lot of praying, talking with my husband, business mentors, and coaches, I came to my senses. I finally understood and knew that what’s for me is for me, and who’s for me is for me. I had to step into my purpose, and everything else will fall into place.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
TamGee Artistry Studio standouts by treating each client like a celebrity. I am more than a makeup artist. When it comes to creating that perfect look, it’s my mission to help my client tap into her inner glow. She will leave my private studio located in Columbia, SC, feeling like the most important person in the world.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I honestly can say that I love seeing each of the women I work with that she has clarity, she more confident and she just feels better about herself.

Staying consistence on social media platforms is a love-hate relationship. I truly truly dislike that. LOL
