Meet Shontell Francis of Augusta Georgia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shontell Francis.

Hi Shontell, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started doing hair in 1998 after my father messed my hair up for picture day while my mother was in the hospital giving birth to my youngest brother. I later started in a salon as an apprentice at age 14. Graduated from Burke County high School in 2009. Later graduating from Virginia college for master cosmetology in 2015. In 2019 my baby brother was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease and end stage kidney failure. In order to be availabile thru his journey I created Hair On Wheels LLC providing salon service from the comfort of your own home. Providing service for Georgia and South Carolina for 6 years. Doing that time I got into film making and sfx makeup under CTC United Productions Studios. Releasing my 1st joint project on YouTube in 2022 and my 1st full length movie on Tubi and Amazon prime in 2023. Today Hair on Wheels LLC is doing business as How Slayed in Augusta Georgia. With 6 movies of my own currently under my belt and and even more that I have assisted on as a cinematographer, sfx makeup artist, hairstylist, or even an actress at times.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Having a small business coming with many struggles especially with being an introvert. I have struggles with holding phone call conversation so I operate by text or email to minimize phone consumer service. Learning that people not liking your work does not equate to not being good enough. Everything is not for everyone and there will always be someone for you.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Hairstylist – loc retwist and style, and quick weaves. I created a winter fantasy show that takes place in my area that’s open to stylists, nail techs, sfx makeup artist, models and now fashion designers from surrounding cities and states

Independent Filmmaker- so far every movie is different. I write, cast, direct, and film my own project along side with my fiance J. Paul the demigod

Special Effects Makeup – I make my own prosthetics, scar makeup, and blood kit.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Don’t stress. People will come, it will get better, and you are great, keep your head up never give up, and keep believing in yourself. All money isn’t good money. If they are a liability to your business and your peace then they are also a blockage to people you need to meet. Don’t be afraid to deny access and refuse service.
