Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Potter.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been a creative at heart – there’s something about the creative process that lights me up, you know? I’ve had a few blogs along the way that I never took overly seriously. However, when I was scheduled to return to work after my maternity leave with my first daughter, we were right in the thick of COVID. She had to navigate some significant health complications as a baby; she had lived in a bubble her entire life, and we weren’t comfortable with the thought of her potentially contracting this (at the time) unknown illness as her first sickness. We decided I would extend my leave, but I was craving a creative outlet and needed to do something for me.
That’s when I decided to start another blog and Instagram account – but this time, I was going to take it more seriously. With that extra focus, it has been incredible to watch it evolve into this platform where I get to share easy, attainable tips for creating beautiful homes. I’m passionate about showing people that you don’t need a huge budget or a perfect Pinterest-worthy setup to make your space feel special.
Being Canadian, I’ve also noticed a big gap in accessibility to affordable yet beautiful decor pieces. Which I saw as another opportunity to help so many people find the best pieces. There’s nothing that brings me more joy than seeing someone take one of my tips or finds and make it entirely their own. When people share their transformations or how they’ve styled something to fit their unique space – that’s when I know this whole journey has been worth it. It’s all about helping people create spaces that feel authentically theirs.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Anyone who tells you building something from scratch while juggling family life is easy is probably not being entirely honest.
One of the biggest learning curves for me continues to be balancing home life, kids, and work. It becomes extra tricky when your work literally happens in the same space where you’re living. When your dining room is both where your family eats dinner and where you’re staging content, or when you’re trying to film something and the kids need you – it’s this constant juggling act. There’s no clear boundary between ‘work time’ and ‘mom time’ because they’re all happening in the same four walls.
Some days, I’d have the perfect shot planned, and then life would happen – someone would get sick, or we’d have a rough night, and suddenly, that content idea goes out the window. My very A-type personality has had to learn to be flexible and give myself grace when things don’t go according to plan. It’s taught me that perfection isn’t the goal – authenticity and showing up consistently, even when it’s messy, is what matters.
That said, another challenge has been, and continues to be, figuring out how to post on social media effectively. With a constantly evolving algorithm, you have to stay on top of your game to understand which format will resonate best with your audience.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work centers on making beautiful home design accessible to everyone by sharing easy tips and beautiful yet affordable decor pieces that help people create spaces they absolutely love without breaking the bank, feeling like they need professional designers to achieve it, or feeling like they can’t do it because of pets or kids etc.
I break down design rules or “design how-to’s” into bite-sized, digestible pieces that anyone could understand and implement in their own spaces. I’m sharing practical solutions for real homes with real families. Being Canadian, I’ve also carved out a niche of helping my fellow Canadians navigate where to find gorgeous, affordable decor pieces up here, which can be a challenge compared to our friends south of the border.
What I’m most proud of? Honestly, it’s the community that’s grown around this. When someone messages me a photo of their space transformation using tips I’ve shared or when they tell me they finally feel confident decorating their home – that fills my heart. I love that I’ve created this space where people feel inspired rather than intimidated.
I think what sets me apart is that authenticity piece. I’m not trying to sell anyone a lifestyle they can’t afford or achieve. I’m sharing what actually works in my real home with my real family, and I think people connect with that honesty. Plus, I genuinely get excited about a good find or a clever styling trick – and I think that enthusiasm is contagious. I want everyone to feel that same joy I get from creating a beautiful space, regardless of their budget or experience level.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
While I no longer have the capacity to offer personalized design services, people can follow along on Instagram for tips, tricks, and finds for all things related to the home. The best way to support your creators is to follow along, and engage with their content or share their pages with friends who they think might love the content!
