Meet Samantha Moses of The Handcrafted Cookie Co

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Moses.

Hi Samantha , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started baking when I was a very young child and learned from the best baker I know, my mother. She passed her talent along to me and I fell in love with making sweet treats. I decided to expand my knowledge and started baking decorated sugar cookies in the spring of 2023.
I began my journey by offering to make cookies for family members and friends. After posting some photos of the sets I created, social media friends reached out asking to order. By early 2024, I had a few orders booked. In May of 2024, I decided to make it official and launch The Handcrafted Cookie Co.
Since I started my company, I have expanded by adding cookie cakes to the menu, offering cookie decorating classes and holiday sales, and participating in vendor events.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Running this business has gone more smoothly than I imagined it would! I have had to add and change policies overtime, but have overall truly enjoyed running my company. I have amazing clients who make that possible. They are as excited about their orders as I am, which allows me fun and creativity in the process.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I specialize in custom made decorated sugar cookies and cookie cakes. My clients bring me their design ideas, party themes, and color palettes, and I use those to bring their events to life in the form of edible art! I have spent countless hours learning new decorating skills and expanding my knowledge, and I believe that it shows in my work.

What sets me apart from others in my field is my communication. I pride myself on great communication skills, and my clients mention it often in their glowing reviews. I have held many customer service-driven jobs in the past, and learned many things along the way. I truly believe this has allowed me to hone my skills and I see just how much my clients value good, detailed communication.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Don’t be afraid to reach out to others in your field and make new connections. Instead of viewing others as your competition, look at them as someone who knows what you’re going through, who you can refer clients to when you’re booked or receive referrals from, and who you can ask questions to or answer questions from.

Industries fail when there aren’t multiple, thriving businesses present in a market. Without a little healthy competition, business owners aren’t as motivated to be more innovative in their field. I look at it as a chance to make changes and grow, and trust that good things will come out of that!
