Meet Rudy Purdy of Málie Esthetics and Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rudy Purdy

Hi Rudy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?

That’s such a great question! I think my passion for helping people feel more confident has been with me long before I ever became an esthetician. I’ve always been drawn to cosmetics and even dabbled in special effects makeup for the arts, but I knew that wasn’t something I wanted to do long-term.

What I did know was that I wanted to be an entrepreneur and help people feel more confident in their own skin. Skin can be such a sensitive topic—many people feel their skin is their first impression, and that pressure can be overwhelming. While I understand that desire for clear, hydrated, and even-toned skin, my focus has always been deeper: what’s happening *inside* the body is far more important.

After graduating from Bare Beauty Institute in Spartanburg, South Carolina, I had the opportunity to live and travel in Hawaii for a short time. While there, I was deeply inspired by the Hawaiian culture, especially on Kauai. Their focus on inner well-being over external appearance left a lasting impression on me. It reinforced my belief that true beauty comes from within—taking care of your body inwardly reflects outwardly on your skin.

That’s also why I chose the name *Málie Esthetics & Beauty*—*Málie* is the Hawaiian word for “calm,” and it represents my philosophy: nurturing both body and mind to achieve radiant, healthy skin. My goal is to offer my clients holistic, results-driven skincare that not only improves their skin but also promotes inner healing and self-care. It’s not just about aesthetics—it’s about empowering people to feel confident in who they are, inside and out.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, especially emotionally. I’ve only been open since August of last year, but from the start, I put a lot of pressure on myself to be busy right away. I knew it wouldn’t happen overnight, but the gap between my expectations and reality definitely caught up with me. While I’m growing my clientele now, there were months in the beginning when I had only two clients or would give facials to friends and family. Although starting out slow was difficult, I genuinely appreciate the support and love everyone showed me. I will never forget how my circle showed up for me!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about my business name is Málie Esthetics, and Beauty?
Another great question! My business is located in a small studio at The Grove beauty Company in Landrum, South Carolina on Rutherford Street! My focus and vision is on holistic skin care treatments that give back to your body rather than depositing chemicals into the body through the skin! I work with a local brand called Livin Off The Earth! I love their products because they are clean effective, and I love that they’re locally made!
I offer a variety of treatments from my “breakout confidence” acne facial to even an elevated custom treatment!

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Oh my gosh, I love, love, love this question, and here’s why! I’ve grown up in Landrum, South Carolina, my entire life, and it feels like every time I go into town, I see someone I’ve known since childhood. Landrum might be seen as a bit of a sleepy town, but I like to think of it as my own little version of Mayberry from *The Andy Griffith Show*!

Some people might tire of the slow pace of life here, but I love it. I’ve been told for a long time that I have an old soul, and the older I get, the more I know it’s true. My favorite thing about Landrum is the sense of community. Everywhere you go, someone smiles at you, asks how work is going, or checks in on your day. You just can’t get that kind of connection in a big city! 🙂
