Meet Rosie Geen of Reidville SC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosie Geen

Hi Rosie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After acquiring a historic building several years ago, I opened Southern Sisters Coffee & Sweet Shop, which became a beloved spot in the neighborhood from 2009 to 2015. Seeking a change, I transitioned into the shipping container business with my fiancé at DP Containers, but I still owned the building. I decided to repurpose the space into something unique—a cozy gathering venue with character.
Thus, Rosie’s was born. It’s a warm, welcoming space that our guests often describe as having a “homey” feel. Rosie’s has become a popular spot for small, intimate events like weddings, bridal and baby showers, graduations, and birthday parties. In a world where most event venues cater to large crowds, Rosie’s offers a rare and intimate setting for gatherings of 30 to 50 people.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
At Rosie’s, like any business, we face our share of challenges. Competing with larger, more commercial venues can be tough—especially as we work to preserve the cozy, personal atmosphere that makes us unique. We’re committed to keeping our space affordable for our guests, ensuring that the charm of Rosie’s remains accessible to everyone who wants to celebrate life’s special moments here. Offering an inviting space where people feel at home is at the heart of what we do, and it’s a balance we’re dedicated to maintaining. Most of our business comes from word-of-mouth referrals and social media, where satisfied guests share their experiences and help us reach new faces. One of my proudest moments came in 2024 when Rosie’s in Reidville was named the best venue by The Post and Courier Spartanburg as the Readers’ Choice winner. That recognition was especially meaningful to me because it showed that my community chose us—not because we have a big, fancy space but because we have a place with heart. There’s something special about knowing that Rosie’s has become a favorite spot for so many in our area. Driving by and seeing a celebration in full swing—a birthday party, a small wedding, a baby shower, or even a graduation gathering—never fails to bring a smile to my face. Rosie’s isn’t just a venue; it’s a gathering spot that adapts to a wide range of needs. We’ve hosted everything from wine tastings to celebrations of life, and I take pride in offering a welcoming, versatile space where our community can come together for a variety of occasions. Being able to be there for such a range of events and to see our guests’ joy firsthand is incredibly rewarding. Of course, I know there will always be challenges. Starting small, I built this space slowly, step by step, and now Rosie’s has grown into a community staple. It’s a place woven into the lives of those who gather here. I love providing this service for our community, and I’m grateful for every opportunity to play a small part in making people’s special moments unforgettable.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Mostly, we offer a space—a blank canvas ready for your unique vision. While we have a list of trusted vendors we can recommend for catering, decor, and other needs, we find that most guests enjoy decorating themselves to bring their personal touch to the space. This makes every event at Rosie’s truly one-of-a-kind, as each celebration reflects the personality and style of the people hosting it.

Graduations are especially popular here during May and June, when families and friends come together to honor new beginnings. In the spring and fall, our venue is often booked for baby showers and wedding showers, as these seasons bring a special charm to each gathering. We’ve even had some truly memorable themed events, like the Halloween wedding that turned out beautifully—it was spooky, stylish, and completely unique to the couple.

We love seeing how guests transform our space for their special moments, whether it’s with vibrant flowers, elegant table settings, or playful holiday decor. It’s a pleasure to offer a place where memories are made and celebrations come to life, in any season and any style.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
After acquiring a charming historic building several years ago, I opened Southern Sisters Coffee & Sweet Shop, a place that quickly became a beloved neighborhood spot, bustling with familiar faces and the smell of freshly brewed coffee. From 2009 to 2015, Southern Sisters was more than a coffee shop; it was a gathering place where locals came to unwind, catch up, and enjoy a sweet treat in a warm, inviting space. However, after six wonderful years, I felt the pull to explore something new. I decided to join my fiancé in the shipping container business with DP Containers, but I never let go of the old building. It held too many memories and too much potential to simply let go. I rented the building out to a start up church for a few years, until they grew into something bigger. After that, That’s when I got the idea to repurpose the space into something unique, something that would carry on the spirit of community and connection that had defined Southern Sisters. And so, Rosie’s was born. With its rustic charm and welcoming vibe, Rosie’s quickly became known as a cozy venue with true character, a place that feels more like home than a typical event hall. Guests often tell me how “homey” it feels, and that’s exactly the atmosphere I hoped to create, a space where people can gather and celebrate life’s milestones without the formality or grandeur of a larger venue. Today, Rosie’s is a popular spot for small, intimate gatherings, hosting everything from weddings and bridal showers to baby showers, graduations, and milestone birthday parties. In a world where so many event venues cater to large crowds and corporate gatherings, Rosie’s stands out as a rare gem, offering an intimate setting perfect for groups of 30 to 50 people. It’s the kind of place where you can truly connect, where every celebration feels personal, and where the charm of the space enhances the joy of the occasion. For me, Rosie’s is more than just a business; it’s a way to keep community and warmth alive, creating a place where people can gather, celebrate, and feel at home.
