Meet Rosalie Hovencamp of Westminster, SC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosalie Hovencamp.

Rosalie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started church ministry at the age of 10 singing in the church choir. When I was 13, I was leading the youth choir on the organ. I was a choir director, and I am currently a worship leader in contemporary music at Trinity United Methodist Church in Anderson. I am also the communications coordinator. I am an award-winning singer-songwriter, a mother of 3, an entrepreneur, a video creator, a producer and just an ordinary person trying to learn as much as I can.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The struggle for any musician would be financial. Streaming music really has a disadvantage for the artist. The best way to support an artist would be to purchase a download or an album. I work several jobs to be able to put money into music, most of which I won’t ever see again. I’m not doing this for money. I know I won’t see any of what I have put in again. My songs are out there to minister, and as long as I can work hard to foot my music bills and as long as I have a song in my heart, I’m going to do this anyway. It is important to have a great team with you, and I am blessed with people with the same mindset and talents to make these songs happen.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a singer-songwriter, and I became more serious when I started co-writing music in 2020. The song “Tiny Babe, Mighty God” which was written with Matt Crosson and Garret Dearing won “Best Christmas Country Gospel Song” in the 2024 Holiday Music and Films Awards. This song was produced with Joel Rose and Joel McCreight.

I was “Gospel Artist of the Month” August 2024 with ISSA and I won the USA Fair Play in Music Business with Red Carpet Show of Europe 2024 and WVIU Contemporary Artist on the Rise – 2023.
I was nominated for a Josie award and 5 nominations for ISSA in 2024 and currently nominated for 7 categories with ISSA.

I have been on gospel television shows such as “Atlanta Live”, WGGS “Niteline” and “Alabama Gospel Roots”. I was in 3 seasons of Charlie Sexton’s Red Back Sing-along Show that airs in Atlanta WATC CH 57, Savannah, Tallahassee and Norway.

I appeared in an upcoming film as Detective Applegate in a film called “I am With You”. The red-carpet premier is Thursday May 29th in Pickens, SC. I have also done voice-over works for Inspire Productions which can be found on YouTube and I enjoy doing Public Service Announcements for radio.

I have also had collaborations with the band AfterLIFE with Dan Dube on guitar and William Fitzpatrick. There is a rock version to my song Intervene and a new release “Cleansed in His Blood” which has a couple of nominations with ISSA.

I also create lyric and concept videos for my music and for other artists. I really enjoy being a small part in the creativity aspect with other artists, whether it be bringing a visual to something they have already created or collaborating on new music. It has built life-long friendships. Many of the videos I create are submitted for acceptance on several programs and may be seen on Christian Media Spotlight or CTN’s “Inspire” which airs in Nashville and Jacksonville.

I am Co-Ceo of Battle Kry Productions. Rusty Drake is on guitar and production, Tom Walker is the keyboardist and David Arnold is the drummer and I am the video creator. I am doing more Christian Rock original music with them, and we have been working on several songs to be released within the next couple of years. I have been taking my hand at music production as well on my vocals.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My children matter most to me. I am very careful that I don’t take too much time away from them. It has been a challenge, but my children have busy schedules on top of my own. I don’t want them missing out on anything, especially on my behalf. I only have a few years before they go on with their own life, so time is very important to me right now. It can be a struggle juggling everything, but I do have a wonderful support system.
