Meet Rachel Gitzen of South Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Gitzen.

Rachel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2021 I found myself in a place where I had time to figure out what I really wanted to do in life. A friend told me to make a list of what I like to do, what I can make a living off of, and what would fill my bucket. I knew I loved helping people and making a difference. I knew I loved organizing and seeing an immediate result. Mostly, I knew that I wanted to do something that allowed me to have a life I enjoyed. Once I put all of this together, I started talking to friends, family and acquaintances to see how I could start my own business. They all told me to go for it but do it as a side hustle.

Fast forward a year…I decided to dive head first into a home organization business. It started slow but I knew that if I kept pushing, I’d eventually make it a full time job. With the support of fellow female entrepreneurs, a ton of networking events, endless hours of figuring out social media, I started getting steady-ish clients.

We’re now about to celebrate our 5 year anniversary in August!! We have a team of three, a social media intern, steady clients all year and can honestly say I’ve created my dream job.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. I’m not sure there is anything about being an entrepreneur that is smooth. Like most businesses, it ebbs and flows. There have been times when I wasn’t sure I could make ends meet but at the end of the day it always works out. I’ve found the biggest thing is to have faith and keep pushing, it’ll all work out.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As professional home organizers, our goal is to bring calm to our clients space. We’re different than other organizers because we believe you should keep what you love. My friends call me “the maximalist of organizing”. I don’t believe we all thrive as minimalist and we cater to those clients who want organization but don’t want to get rid of everything.

I’m most proud of how far Rah and Co Organizing has come! I knew I could do hard things but owning a business is a whole different level.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Our city has some amazing people! There’s not much to do but the people make most activities so much better, And thank goodness the food scene is growing.
