Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Mars Jr.
Hi Michael, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started MyDD Rideshare at the illustrious Benedict College in 2017 by helping my international classmates get to work since they didn’t know anyone who had a car and wasn’t used to Uber or Lyft. We have more than 300 drivers & 500 riders, and we are growing. We’re located in all 50 states & countries.
Why MyDD instead of Uber & Lyft?
- Our drivers get 90% of the riders fair. For a 30min ride, our drivers get 27 dollars; they only charge by the minute.
- Women have the option to request women drivers to get them now when available
- All apps have the “Favorite” selection, so you can request the same driver again you liked before
- Unlike Uber & Lyft, you can now drive and make money no matter what state you’re in.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been down and up’s. We’ve grown so much since 2017 on a college campus. The hardest uphill battle is focusing on marketing 24/7. Getting more attention in the drive share industry. We must focus on marketing more than anything else; we’ve been viral a couple of times, but more is needed to increase riders/drivers & profits consistently.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I dropped out of college to put my time fully into MyDD, so I got my certifications in UX design. I also specialize in my own clothing company, “Forever Solid,” so I create shorts, etc., then sell them to the public. I’m most proud of getting my companies and being fully self-employed. My ability to never be scared to tackle a challenge sets me apart from others.
We’d love to hear about your fond memories from growing up.
My favorite childhood memory would be playing with my cousins at our grand parent’s house.
