Meet Mercedes Nelson of Confidence Within Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mercedes Nelson

Hi Mercedes, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started Confidence Within Worth because I was embarking on my self-love and healing journey. I went to therapy in 2019 because I was tired of crying myself to sleep at night or drinking to numb the sadness—I wanted to get help. I knew I wasn’t the only one struggling with a lack of confidence, feeling unfulfilled, or not having a relationship with myself. I wanted to provide insight, tools, and resources to help others figure out how to navigate—or even begin—this long-term, transformative journey. I didn’t want others to feel alone in this process, so I felt called to support them. I also started this work because I was always the friend who offered words of encouragement or was there during difficult times.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. This road has been filled with many detours, ups and downs, and changes. Not only was I just about a year into my self-love journey when I decided to create this business, but I was also unlearning aspects of myself that had kept me feeling stuck or unworthy—all while navigating boundaries for the first time and watching people leave my life because I was speaking up for myself or prioritizing my own needs to truly discover what Mercedes wanted.

I also struggled with figuring out how to be a successful self-love coach because there weren’t many examples or much representation for Black women in this space. As a result, I constantly battled imposter syndrome, fear of failure, and doubts about whether I could be successful in this business venture. Since this was my third business—and the most personal one—it meant so much more to me than my previous endeavors.

We’ve been impressed with Confidence Within Worth, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
To anyone who wants to pursue their dreams or passions—whether it involves starting a business or not—my advice is to take a risk on yourself, invest in yourself, and just start. Yes, you will make mistakes. Yes, you will fail. Yes, things might not go the way you planned. But at the end of the day, you are learning something new about yourself and gaining an opportunity to improve and show up even better.

If you are surrounded by people who constantly speak negatively or project their fears onto your dreams, remove them from your life. For some reason, they don’t want you to be successful—but that has nothing to do with you. That is a projection of how they feel about themselves and their own lives.

Keep people in your circle who genuinely support and care about you. Surround yourself with like-minded individuals—people you can learn from and who will tell you the hard truths that will only make you better. And most importantly, allow yourself to feel both the highs and the lows that will come along the way.
