Today we’d like to introduce you to Mayra Reyes
Camila, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Mayra Reyes, and I have been a florist for about two years now. I started making floral arrangements around the summer I was entering my high school senior year. It all started out with one of my close friends asking if I could make a bouquet for their significant other. Shortly after that I found myself making multiple bouquets a week, The summer before my senior year, I created an Instagram page to post the bouquets I’ve made an offer them out to the community.
I remember the same day I made my page I hit 100 followers. From then on, I started taking more orders and started uploading more pictures, since I was in high school most of my clients were in high school as well. I had support from many of the people I went to school with am very grateful for them because of them I was able to grow so much, and I was becoming more known as ” the flower girl”. fast forward a few months later dates like Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day started coming up, I had no idea what I was in for, they were such eventful days. I’ve always loved flowers but my love for them grew more when I would see the faces of the people who received my arrangements. I even skipped important dates for myself so I could bring joy to others with my creations, instead of going to prom my senior year I decided to instead take orders for corsages and boutonnieres, and I absolutely do not regret it. I loved seeing everyone upload their dresses and suits along with the corsages and boutonnieres made by me. I am currently in college studying as well as managing my business, I would have not made it here without the help of my mom and my peers who supported me and who still support me to this day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I faced many struggles along the way, like my mom says, “nothing is every handed to you, you need to work hard to accomplish your goals”. At first, I only really struggled with finding good vendors and high-quality supplies as well as managing my time but little did, I know bigger obstacles would come my way. On valentines day last year 2024, I had no clue what I was in for! I had trouble with my vendors as well as having trouble managing my time with all the orders that were placed not only that, but I only had 3 hours of sleep that day and had school the following day. It was one of the craziest days and I wished I had been more prepared. After graduating high school, the following week I got to work. I worked from 11am-11pm in the food industry, the biggest struggle I had was coming home and not having enough energy to work on the flower arrangements that would be picked up the following day. For a few months this was my biggest struggle I had to find a way to balance my job along with my business so I could be able to help out my parents and to help pay my college tuition.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I run a floral business and have been a florist for about two years now. I specialize in “Ramo Buchones” which is an all-rose bouquet usually 50 roses and up as well floral wooden stands and mixed bouquets. I am the most proud of my work and how much I have grown since I first started out. Although there may be many other florists in town, we are stand apart from others. We make sure to provide the freshest and most high-quality blooms for your weddings, proposals, birthdays and any special event. We work together to delicately arrange each stem in its place. Like I always say May’s Bouquets is where magic happens!
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to me most is the satisfaction of my clients, seeing their faces as I hand them their arrangement is the most pleasant experiences. Seeing their reaction as their arrangement is being handed to them bring me so much joy it can turn a bad day into an amazing day every time i hear “Omg! They’re so pretty!” or an ” Thank you so much! I love them” even an ” They look so good, Thank you”. Not only that but I genuinely enjoy making arrangements for others, I enjoy thinking of how happy and excited the person receiving the arrangement will be and look forward to their reactions.
