Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary-Langston Don.
Hi Mary-Langston , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a lifelong learner who is passionate about connecting with others and creating spaces where people feel seen, valued, and empowered. My own journey reflects God’s goodness, as each day offers new lessons that continue to shape and grow me into who I am called to be.
I grew up in Fountain Inn, South Carolina, and graduated from Anderson University with a degree in English, while also on scholarship with the university’s tennis team. After graduation, I moved to Washington, D.C., to work for Congressman Trey Gowdy. When he retired from Congress, I returned to South Carolina and joined Nelson Mullins Law Firm in Greenville, where I assisted Mr. Gowdy, along with Cindy Crick and Sheria Clarke. During this time, I received my masters degree in Communications from Liberty University. After my time at Nelson Mullins, I transitioned to my current role with the Miriam Foundation, while continuing to support Mr. Gowdy in his ongoing work. I am so grateful for what I get to do each day, continuing to learn and grow.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey hasn’t always been smooth, and there have been struggles along the way, but God has remained faithful through it all. Even on days when I couldn’t see the way forward, He continued to shine light on the darkest paths, guiding me step by step.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have the honor to work for the The Miriam Foundation, where we serve girls and young women in our community. It’s a joy to connect with our Miriam girls and their families each week. I love being able to be part of a team who creates a place of belonging for our girls to grow, understand their worth and value, and develop into who they are designed to be.
Our mission is to renew, inspire, support, and encourage girls and young women to overcome challenges, excel academically, socially and personally. We provide support and resources to help girls and young women stay on track and reach their God-given potential. We encourage them to rise above challenges and flourish academically, socially, physically and emotionally. We expand opportunities so they can cultivate a life of significance and uplift communities. We provide weekly mentoring, overall academic support, while teaching life skills, and incorporate social emotional learning for girls in the southern tip of Greenville County. We work with 4th grade through high school students and each school recommends girls to be part of our programming. It’s a blessing to be able to help serve the community that helped raise me.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We welcome volunteers to join us in supporting the meaningful work we do each week. There are many ways to get involved—from financial contributions and mentoring, to providing meals, to signing up to bring birthday treats once a month, and much more. Whether you have a little time or a lot to give, we have plenty of opportunities for you to serve alongside us.
