Meet Louise Register of Almond Lou, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Louise Register

Hi Louise, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Around eight, I started growing a passion for doing hair, specifically braids. Approaching my sophomore year. I enrolled in cosmetology classes. After seeing what else the course offered, I changed my mind about braids and became interested in skin care. I graduated from Manning High School in 2017 with my diploma & my cosmetology license. In hopes of becoming an entrepreneur, I decided to attend my local technical college. While in college, I was also searching for a spa to start my journey in skin care. During these five challenging years. I learned other skills like nails, body waxing, and lash extensions. I made relationships with lifelong clients. I obtained my associate’s degree in business management and applied science in 2019. Fast forward to 2022, I graduated as a Massage Therapist. I took it further and decided to go solo in April 2023 as Almond Lou, LLC. I serve Sumter County with Lashes, waxing, facials, and massages. Almost two years in, and here we are today. It was definitely one of the best decisions so far.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No. I have not had a smooth road. In the beginning, balancing work, personal, and school life was a big challenge. I was up late at night finishing homework, trying to perfect my craft, and waiting to go out and have fun with friends and family. You think you can be in many places simultaneously, but you’re just one person. You must find a middle ground between work and play when you have so much going on. It’s essential to take time to rest. Experiencing burnout of any type will affect your overall health. We live, learn to go through these trials and hardships, and have a community when we need help. You will always be on top if you can motivate and respect yourself to keep evolving. That’s how you keep growing.

As you know, we’re big fans of Almond Lou, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I have a dual license as a cosmetologist and massage therapist. I work on the aesthetics side of cosmetology, specializing in body waxing while also establishing a relaxing environment for facials, lashes, and, let’s not forget, therapeutic massages. Most of my clients know me for body waxing. Being able to effectively calm clients down when nervous and thoroughly explain any process for comfort. I think what sets me apart from others is prioritizing client-centered services. I ensure every client feels safe and secure and customize each service to every client. Brand-wise, I am most proud of my professionalism and hospitality. These are essential when serving the public. Common courtesy will take you places where skill can’t. I love incorporating relaxation into all sessions, from waxing to lashes to massages and facials. Almond Lou provides an environment for letting go of the outside turmoils of jobs and family life. Our services are a great way to take a step back from the bustle of everyday life. Come take a break with us at Almond Lou.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Networking with others, not just in your work industry, has helped so much going solo. Networking can and will put you in rooms to grow where skill can’t. Don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself and your brand. Meeting the right new people can help increase your clientele or even bring new brand awareness. When finding a mentor, find someone who has been there and done that. This person may be older than you or have already been where you’re trying to go. Your mentor should help push you to excel in uncomfortable areas. You also have to be willing to take criticism and want to do better. My mentors happen to be my cosmetology teacher and my facial representative. These women have pushed and motivated me to be where I need to be.
