Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Donovan.
Hi Liz, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The foundation of my work and life is mindfulness. How we spend our time, energy, and resources matters. Last year I laid the foundation for Mom Me Minute, a concierge support service created to help modern moms reclaim their time and improve their well-being. Before launching the business, I spent over a decade in corporate training, IT, and project management.
Like so many others, COVID cracked open my perspective on life. After years working in NYC finance, I knew I needed a reset. I left New York, packed a backpack, and spent the next year and a half traveling throughout 23 countries. That journey reminded me what really matters. Time with loved ones, support and belonging. Mom Me Minute was born from that awareness, from lived experiences, and from deep empathy. Most of all, it was born from the belief that every mom deserves more support and space to care for herself.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business is the most challenging thing I have ever done. I know, every entrepreneur says that, but it’s true! It is all on you. Your ideas. Your voice. Your risks. Your money. There is no roadmap. Everyone has an opinion, but the one you have to trust is your own. I’ve had to listen to my gut, evolve with each decision, and keep showing up. It takes courage. It takes persistence. But hey, I am still here. Building something I believe in deeply; one step at a time.
The hardest part was simply getting started. A business coaching program with other female entrepreneurs helped me take the leap. Now, it’s about finding consistency, anticipating client needs, and continuously evolving. Women often default to the classic phrase, “I’ll just do it myself”. Educating potential clients on the value of outsourced help for their mental well-being is currently my biggest challenge.
We’ve been impressed with Mom Me Minute, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Recent data shows, women in the United States spend twice as much time on household tasks than men. That adds up to two to four hours every single week. Mom Me Minute provides personalized, on-demand support for modern moms in Charleston, South Carolina.
We help lighten the mental and physical load with services that feel like an intuitive trusted friend. There’s no long-term commitment, scheduling happens online, and services are completely customized to you and your family’s priorities every single session. This is not a new concept, but one that women have carried throughout generations in villages, cities, and communities across the world.
We do tasks such as organizing pantries and kids’ rooms, doing the dishes, meal prepping, completing a full laundry cycle (wash, dry, fold, put away), and overall, just help moms reset their space and spirit. We offer real, practical support for the women who are used to doing it all. Today, many women are struggling to hold everything together because the systems were never designed to support working mothers. Especially in transplant cities like Charleston.
Countless studies are beginning to reveal that maternal mental health in the US is on a sharp decline. I want to be part of the solution. Moms deserve better. Women deserve better. And the next generation deserves systems that truly support them.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up on a lake in Oswego, New York. I was the youngest of three girls in an Irish Italian family. Throughout childhood, and now, I’ve realized my immediate and extended family supports each other in tremendous ways. My parents were always there. Soccer games. Orchestra concerts. Academic events. They were, and still are, caretakers for anyone who needs help. That kind of presence and genuine care shaped me.
I vividly remember at six or seven years old getting more excited looking at Home Depot and Lowes flyers from the Sunday paper than toys from Toys-R-Us or clothes from JCPenney’s. I’ve always loved making things beautiful and was drawn to the beauty, design and functionality within homes. I was a sweeper and full back defender in soccer for 12 years. That wired the pathways of my brain to be an observer and anticipate the next move of teammates and opponents both on and off the field. I studied business at SUNY Albany with a focus on management and finance, but my heart lived in my English and communications minors. I fell in love with writers like Hemingway, whose simplicity said more than most can with a page.
When I was searching for my next step after my nomadic travel, I asked my mom what skillset that I’ve been good at my entire life. She said, “organizing”. All the blessings of my childhood and adult life have led me here. I have so much gratitude for the people and experiences my journey thus far.
