Meet Lil’True of Newberry S.C

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lil’True.

Hi Lil’True, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up I was always the ‘the shy guy’. So as I grew into myself, I had to force myself to be more outspoken whereas I use to harbor my emotions causing a strain on my mental health at a young age. Music was a creative way to display my art through words, as well as making awkward conversations easier for me to discuss. To further master my craft I studied the biggest names in rap culture of that time which was Lil’Wayne, Nick Minaj, Drake & Lil’Twist. All of who still serve as my inspiration today.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been very smooth at all. The road to success has plenty of potholes that aren’t mentioned. Keeping my family life & music life separate has always been my biggest priority. The lack of support & the surge of criticism from the people I love & respect such as relatives, close friends & previous significant others was hard for me to accept at first, it hurt in the beginning however I found peace when I realized I can’t please everyone so the ones who support me genuinely will understand & I appreciate those who actively puts in the effort to show love. Also one recurring question that haunts me often is “how will rap culture adjust to someone like me?” I don’t fit the typical rapper stereotype. I guess time will tell…

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Rapper who is known for coming up with thought provoking lyrics. I never shy away from showing emotions when I sit down to write so rather you’re a boy from Alaska or a girl from Switzerland you will know who I am at heart. I believe what makes my work so authentic is that Every song I write is from a “thinking out loud” prospective. Keeping god in the forefront of my life & career has always brought a sense of pride to who i am & what i do.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Honestly I’ve always been a risk taker because I fear living in regret. The decision I am faced with currently could risk damaging my brand, I believe every businessman has faced this same decision “How must I adapt with the times?” Growing up all of my musical influences were very lyrical, I grew up on Eminem, Lil’Wayne, JCole (who is another Carolina native so he was always special to me) & Nicki Minaj. Although I am still figuring out what my evolution will sound like, I have been looking into taking vocal lessons to pursue R&B in the near future.
